Resa was born October 8, 1952, in Amarillo, Texas, the daughter of Eugene M. Baker and Olive Virginia Newcomb Baker Chism. After growing up in Amarillo, she moved to Houston, Texas in 1967, where she graduated from Bellaire High School in 1970. After living in Anaheim, California and Lubbock, Texas she returned home to Amarillo in 1974. It was back in Amarillo that she met and married the love of her life, Sam E. McAlexander, in 1975.

As a young girl, she professed her faith in Christ and was baptized at Trinity Baptist Church, and later belonged to Avondale Baptist Church in Amarillo. Resa’s Christian faith was her continual guide throughout life as a daughter, sister, wife, mother and grandmother.

Resa was ever constant in her joyful spirit of giving and care for her family. She was lovingly known as Momma and Mom to her three children and Gamama to her five grandchildren. Resa was passionate about learning and research, with a particular love for her own family’s genealogy. Through her interest in family history, she also found a love of photography, from preserving the photographs of previous generations to capturing the important moments in her and her family’s lives. She leaves behind a rich legacy of stories and memories that her children and grandchildren will continue to share with generations to come.

She was preceded in death by her mother in 2010; her father in 2010; her stepmother, Betty J. Stovall Baker, in 2023; her father-in-law, Eural H. McAlexander, in 2007; her brother-in-law, Gearld L. Carter Jr., in 1999; and her sister-in-law, Betty Jo Allen Baker, in 2002.

Survivors include her beloved husband of nearly 50 years, Sam; a daughter, Cheyenne McAlexander-Purdy, and husband Cody, grandchildren Harper and Blythe of Lakewood, Colorado, a son, Seth McAlexander, and wife Brittany, grandchildren Adley, Vivienne and Simon of Amarillo, and a daughter, Erin McAlexander of Amarillo, a sister, Renè Carter Brown of Amarillo, a brother, Ronald Baker of Houston, and mother in law, Winona McAlexander of Amarillo.

The family is especially grateful to her many caregivers at the BSA Harrington Cancer Center and BSA Hospice Homecare.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Ronald McDonald House of Amarillo.
