Peggy Lou Howard, 84, of Amarillo, TX passed away May 29, 2023.
Memorial services will be at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, June 10, 2023, at Pathpoint Fellowship Church , 6215 Canyon Dr., Amarillo, TX 79110.
Peggy, who went by Lou was born the 7
th
of 9 children on April 9, 1939, in Amarillo, TX to Albert and Reba Sue Seymour. She attended grammar, junior high, and 2 years of school in Canyon, TX then transferred to Palo Duro High School in Amarillo where she graduated in 1957. Her favorite subjects were English Literature and Music. She was involved in band and orchestra from 5th grade through graduation and was a majorette her senior year. After graduation, she worked at Amarillo Globe News and had a column called Peggy’s Prowling’s. Then she moved to California and married Bobby Lee Howard. Bobby was in the Marine Corp. After his discharge they moved back to Amarillo, TX and Albuquerque, NM. They had 2 daughters, Jodi Lynn and Karla Evonne. She continued singing, songwriting, and hula dancing. She and her 2 sisters Pete and Patti sang backup for Ray Ruff on many of his records including: A Fool Again, Pledge Of Love, A Dream, and I’m Qualified.
She went on to work for Sam Marmaduke at Western Merchandisers, which later became Hastings. Then she and Karla moved to Farmington, AR where she worked for Campbell’s Soup Company. She also lived in Hot Springs and Mena, AR. She later moved back to Amarillo, then to Dublin, Stephenville, Granbury, Canyon, and Plainview before returning to Amarillo for good. Lou sure liked to MOVE!!!
She is preceded in death by her parents; 2 brothers; and 3 sisters.
Peggy is survived by daughters, Jodi Davis and husband Mike and Karla Lemarr and husband Larry; grandchildren, Martie Smith and husband Roderick, Mia Rose and Pong T., Joshua Rose and wife Tina, Joel Switzer and wife Ella, Mika Davis, Jason Lemarr, Ryan Lemarr and wife Tasha, and Dillon Lemarr; 13 great-grandchildren, Brandon, Nathen, Mason, Braden, Talia, Makhia, Isaiah, Calillian, Gracie, Kynlee, Colt, Elly, and Shyla Lou; and 2 great great-grandchildren, Jaev’n and Elijah.
