Peggy Jean Allred Kerley, 76, of Amarillo, TX entered into heaven being completely healed emotionally, physically and mentally on November 5, 2024.
Memorial service will be at 2:00 PM, Saturday, November 23, 2024 at Palo Duro Baptist Church in Wildorado, TX. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.
Peggy was born on August 29, 1948 to Glenn and Wilma Lee Allred in Amarillo, TX. She grew up in the Wildorado community and graduated from Hereford High School.
As a teenager Peggy was involved in a farming accident where her right hand was pulled off. Doctors were able to reattach her hand, which was a medical miracle. She went on to gain her Bachelor Degree in Nursing from University of Texas. Peggy worked as a surgical nurse for High Plains Baptist Hospital, Saint Anthony Hospital and Northwest Texas Hospital. Having a love for traveling and a desire for adventure, her nursing career provided an opportunity to be a traveling nurse. She worked in Florida, Alaska, Montana and Hawaii. Eventually leaving the nursing field, Peggy met and married Oran Kerley. They started a construction company preparing foundation pads for homes and buildings. She traded her spectroscope for a scraper.
One of the greatest loves of Peggy’s life was animals. She had a true gift for rescue and saving animals including a raccoon, skunk, birds, cats/kittens, dogs/puppies, fish, etc. Her favorite animals are dogs. Peggy referred to her dogs as her kids and she lived her whole life with a dog by her side until she went into a nursing home.
She is survived by her last dog Karemalla “Karmey” Linda Lou Carder; the sweetest French Bulldog ever. Other survivors include Peggy’s older sister, Donita Rule of Vega; brother Roddy “Bud” Glenn Allred Sr and his wife Janice and many nieces and nephews.
Proceeded in death by her parents Glenn and Wilma Lee Allred, her husband Oran Kerley, sister Judy Lee Allred, and a few of favorite pets Pooh-Pooh, the racoon, Flower the skunk, Samson the Doberman, Pixie and Widget the Yorkies, Tut the Egyptian Hairless Cat, Whinny and Cornbread the French Bulldogs, Littlebit a rescue dog and many others.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donation to Palo Duro Baptist Church or SCAR of Amarillo Pet Rescue.
