Paul Eliot Cizon died peacefully at home on September 4, 2024, with his loving wife at his side.
Memorial Services will take place at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church and St. Andrew’s Columbarium on Tuesday, September 24, at 2:00 pm. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.
Paul was born on August 25, 1944, in El Paso Texas. President of Cizon’s Jewelers, he began with the company founded by his father, Leon Cizon, when he was very young. A loving family and the success of Cizon’s were his lifelong dreams.
Paul was a crack shot and an excellent bird hunter. At the Amarillo Gun Club, he won numerous trophies and proudly displayed them in his store. Family meals of “dove mcnuggets” were a tradition. He was an expert skier, the one the instructors wanted to ski with at the end of the day. And he was an avid golfer — wanting to equal his shooting and skiing abilities with golf. That remained a work in progress.
Paul was a wonderful husband and father. He showered his wife, Laurie, with love, help, support (and jewels!). For his sons, Aaron and Murray, he wanted everything they dreamed of, and he treasured every moment of his fatherhood. He was extremely proud of them as men who would make the world better.
A graduate of New Mexico Military Institute, Paul was often called by former coaches (who had become his friends) to help organize special events for N.M.M.I. athletes who graduated from the Institute around the same time he did. He was active in the community, serving on such boards or executive committees as the Amarillo Executive Club, Amarillo Symphony, Amarillo Little Theater, Amarillo Speech and Hearing Center, and the Tri-State Fair. He was generous when called upon to help a non-profit organization whose goals meshed with his staunch values.
Paul never considered any of Laurie’s family an in-law, and he and the Gray’s. who loved him very much, were loyal to and generous with one another.
He is survived by his wife, Laurie Gray Cizon, two sons, Aaron Cizon of Greenville, South Carolina and Murray Cizon of Portland, Oregon, and by three beloved grandchildren Eliot, Adelaide, and Avery Cizon. He is also survived by Steve Morris, Dennis Caplan, Bruce Caplan, and Larry Caplan of Seattle, Washington. In addition, his surviving family also includes Mike and Lucia Gray, Linda Gray, Michael and Katy Gray, Matthew and Leah Gray, Kate and Luke Olson, Rachel and Andy Chandler, Tambre and Ed Marshall, Meredith Marshall, Ted and Megan Marshall, Molly Marshall, Jane Gray, Marie Anderson, and numerous beloved cousins, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be sent to St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, 1601 S. Georgia Street, Amarillo Texas 79102 or to the Amarillo SPCA, 11901 Coulter, Amarillo, Texas 79119.
