Patricia “Pati” Bonnell Mayes – December 3, 2012

Patricia “Pati” Bonnell Mayes, 82, of Amarillo, died Monday, December 3, 2012.

Memorial services will be at 3 p.m., Wednesday, December 5, 2012, at Washington Avenue Christian Church with Jim Shelburne and her nephew, Doug Hinkle, officiating.  Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Pati Mayes was born May 25, 1930 to Lowell Wade Bonnell and Eva Genesie Bonnell in South Bend, Indiana.   In her early years, Pati worked at a governmental ammunitions plant, and several doctor offices.  She attended Cincinnati Bible Seminary before meeting her husband of 58 years.  The majority of her life she was a faithful housewife and a loving mother who dedicated her life to serving her family.   Her life centered around her family, which she adored and who adored her.  This special Christian lady was the perfect wife, mother, Grahm , and great-grandmother, who was the foundation of the entire family.  The last several years, she suffered from Alzheimer’s, which never diminished her loving, sweet nature, and her happiness and zest for life.  She loved everybody, including strangers, during this time, and her spirit touched everyone she came in contact with.  This enabled the family to have the blessing to care for her at home during this illness, as she was happy and a true inspiration every day.   While we are comforted that she is home with the Lord and fellow loved ones, her physical presence will be missed by all she met, especially her family, who look forward to their reunion in Heaven someday.

Pati  married Clair Schaden Mayes  on February 14, 1952 in South Bend, Indiana.  They have resided in Norman, OK, Lawton, OK, and Amarillo, Texas since 1955.

Pati  was a member of Washington Avenue Christian Church since 1955 where her love for babies inspired her to serve in the church nursery for years.  She also attended the Solos Class for several years until her health deterred her from attending.

Pati was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; a brother, Everett Lee Bonnell; a sister, Thelma Maxine Hinkle;  and son-in-law, Kelly Kellison.

Survivors include two daughters, Susan Dawn Kellison and Stacy Mayes Morrison, of Amarillo; five grandchildren, Jeffrey Kellison and wife, Jane Kellison, Jennifer Kellison, Jordan Kellison, Patrice Wilson and husband, Derek Wilson; and Blake Morrison; two great-grandchildren, Braden Kellison and Josie Kellison;  five nephews, Chuck Mayes, Donny Hinkle, Danny Hinkle, David Hinkle and Doug Hinkle and their wives; and three nieces, Nancy Rader, Cherry Sallee, and Crystal Siggins and their husbands.   Also, she is survived by many other loving extended family and friends.

The family wishes to thank all the wonderful caregivers at BSA-Hospice for their loving, compassionate care.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Washington Avenue Christian Church Building Fund, 4002 S. Washington, Amarillo, TX 79110; or the Alzheimer’s Association, 1400 Wallace Blvd., Amarillo, TX 79106.
