Norma Walker Groom, 87, of Amarillo, died Monday, Aug. 5, 2013.
Services will be at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2013, in Polk Street United Methodist Church Chapel with the Rev. Kevin Deckard, associate pastor, officiating. Burial will be private. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
Mrs. Groom was born in Amarillo in 1926 to Etheline and Manly Walker. After graduating from Amarillo High School in 1944, she attended Cottey College in Missouri and then TSCW in Denton.
She married Gene Groom in 1950 and lived in California until 1958, returning to Pampa and then Amarillo in 1962.
She founded the Mary and Marthas Sunday school class at Polk Street United Methodist Church.
She enjoyed tennis and bridge and was an active volunteer.
She is survived by her husband Gene; her son, Jay and his wife Lynne; her aunt Clarice Guill Brown and husband Charles; and nephew Bruce Hare and wife Linda.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m.- 6:00 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2013, at the funeral home.
