Mrs. Nicole Lynne Bounsing, ‘Nikki,’ 44, of Amarillo, Texas, passed away Saturday, July 27, 2024.
A celebration of her life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 10, 2024, at Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount in Amarillo, Texas.
Nikki was born February 20, 1980, in Emporia, Kansas, to Richard Wayne Davis and Edythe Lola (Peterson) Davis and lived in Osage City, Kansas. From her roots as a Kansas girl, it was there she developed her fondness for sunflowers (which always face the light of the sun, and symbolize unwavering faith and loyalty). She eventually moved to Amarillo, Texas.
In high school, she played the clarinet in the marching band and enjoyed modeling. With a competitive spirit, she later liked playing on a community volleyball team. In college, she earned an associate’s degree in computer science and worked in the healthcare industry before becoming part of the family community at BSA Health System.
With a true servant’s heart, Nikki served as the Gift Shop and Volunteer Services Coordinator at BSA for thirteen years but wore many hats at the hospital and was committed to helping anyone who needed assistance or support. She enjoyed managing the hospital gift shop with her keen eye and skillset for buying, designing, and marketing. But most of all, Nikki cherished each and every one of the volunteers, who held a distinct place in her heart, and if you have ever spoken to even one of the volunteers about Nikki, you would know the feeling was mutual; she was greatly loved.
She was “five-foot tall with a heart as big as Texas,” and served the community in different ways over the years. She helped at Snack-Pak-4-Kids and volunteered often for the Alzheimer’s Association to help raise funds for research by participating in the Walk to End Alzheimer’s and the Blondes vs. Brunettes flag football event, all in honor of her Gram. Giving back to the community as a PTA volunteer at West Plains Junior High School was her latest pursuit.
With unconditional love, Nikki was a devoted wife and an extremely proud and very cool momma. She met her husband, Derric, in high school. They have been together for twenty-eight years and married for twenty-four years; together they have two stunning and super-smart daughters, Adelyne, seventeen, and Breelle, thirteen—Nikki was the queen of their hearts—and was also momma to an adorable golden doodle, Chanelle Mango, who rather recently joined the Bounsing family.
In addition to prioritizing and loving her family and her spiritual values, Nikki selflessly gave to others; she loved being silly and doing things to make people smile, giggle, and feel uniquely loved, especially with her unforgettable, infectious laughter that could be heard near and far, and her handwritten notes of sweet sentiment. Nikki wholeheartedly dedicated herself to being the best wifey, momma, granddaughter, daughter, sissy-poo, aunt, niece, and friend anyone could ever want.
She loved starting her day with a good cup of Starbucks chai to energize herself so she could give back to others. She enjoyed reading, watching reality TV and cooking shows, and painting. She loved the mountains and looked forward to traveling for the annual Bounsing family vacations as well as the yearly sissy-poo road trips. She had a sweet tooth with a great liking for making desserts. Being fashionably trendy, she loved style and was always on the lookout, shopping for the cutest pair of shoes, for which she owned many, many, many pairs. She was known to listen to music with a good beat at a loud decibel. Nikki had an exceptional knack for creating a home filled with love and modern design elements. In their home, you see her favorite colors of pink and green scattered amongst the many black and white family photos displayed everywhere you look. It is no wonder that her favorite flower was light pink roses, which symbolize sweetness, thoughtfulness, and affection. Her favorite holiday was Christmas, and she loved Santa Claus, particularly pink and white Santas.
She was so many things to so many people: beautiful inside and out, precious, compassionate, sweet, kind, thoughtful, honest, trustworthy, loyal, affectionate, reliable, intelligent, respectful, and courageous. There is no one like her; she was one of a kind and she is irreplaceable. We are profoundly saddened, grief stricken, and heartbroken, and we mourn greatly the loss of her sweet spirit, which mere words can never describe.
We know Nikki is seated in a special place of peace and solace at the left hand of God. With power and sovereignty, God valiantly fights for His children with his right hand, and with His left, He comforts them. “For I, the Lord your God, hold your right hand; it is I who say to you, ‘Fear not, I am the one who helps you.”—Isaiah 41:13
Nikki will forever and always live on in each of our hearts; until we see her again, to the moon and back, we ‘love you—bye.’ xoxo
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Richard and Madelene ‘Gram’ Davis, grandparents, Al Peterson and Deloris ‘Dee’ Keller, and stepdad, Ralph Cunningham.
She is survived by her husband, Derric Douang Bounsing, and two daughters, Adelyne Phoutpasone Bounsing and Breelle Neon Bounsing, dad, Richard ‘Dick’ Davis, mom Edythe ‘Edye’ Cunningham, sister Tracee Davis Post and husband Robert Post with three nieces and one great niece on the way, parents-in-law, Soon and Nuy Bounsing, brothers-in-law, Alec and wife June Bounsing, and G and wife Tiffany Bounsing, and between them with two nieces, three nephews, and one great niece.
