Newton was an incredible Coach and person. I was fortunate to have played softball for him at West Texas State University. The lessons I learned from him I still use today in my College Coaching career.

What a legacy Newt has left behind and the enormous amount of lives he touched. He was my coach, mentor, friend, and the man that managed to talk me into helping coach with him when I asked him to coach my daughter. I thought, what an amazing thing it would be to have the same man who coached me, coach my kiddo. I already knew how great of a job he would do. What I didn’t know or understand at the time, was the blessing of the experience he was giving me by having me coach with him. I finally understood why he did what he did and got to see a very small piece of his world and what he saw in me as well as so many others that he found joy in coaching. To his family, I am beyond sorry for your loss. God bless you all. Lifting you up in prayer.

I am so very thankful to have known Coach Owens while at Amarillo High School. Always a fun guy, with a great smile, and positive attitude!! He sure loved coaching, and guiding the students, striving to see them succeed. He will truly be missed, and I will miss kidding with him when he was in the office.at AHS. I will forever admire Newton Owens for the friend he was, the things he taught me on the field and the expectations he had of me as a person off the field. He watched over my little Averie during her days at AHS and let everyone know he was her “dad” and to be nice to her. I will always have so much respect for him and how hard he worked all of the time. I am going to miss our visits, I will miss seeing him around the softball complex and will miss watching him ref basketball games. He has touched my heart and my daughters and we are better for it.. prayers for the family and mulitie friends that have lost “our” Newt. My heart is so heavy.

His hugs were warm and inviting.
His smile lit up the world.
His laughter was like music and his jokes were interestingly funny.
His friendship is blessing I’ll always be thankful for.
God’s blessings for his family that they may know that this wonderful man is with his father in heaven and rejoicing in his rewards. I’ll miss you, Newt, you were truly one of a kind.
