Mr. James Marvin Jackson, 87, of Amarillo, Texas passed away quietly at his home on Monday, May 22, 2023.

Service Details

The family will receive guests from 6:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M., Tuesday, May 30, 2023, at Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home at 2800 Paramount Boulevard, Amarillo Texas. The Celebration of Life Services will be Wednesday, May 31, 2023, at 11:00 am in the Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel. The service will be officiated by Pastor E.J. Cofer. Final Resting Place will be at Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, Amarillo.

Life and Legacy of James M. Jackson

James was born in Bastrop, Texas on June 9, 1935, to Bennie and Otha Jackson. He attended grade school and high school in Taylor, Texas. He grew up attending the Baptist Church with his mother. He was baptized at an early age at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church.

He moved to Amarillo, Texas after attending Prairie View A. & M. University, where he married Beverly Ann Mallory in 1960. The ceremony was officiated by a Potter County official.

James and Beverly co-owned JJ’s Bail Bonds Service and managed The Atmosphere, a soul food restaurant; for over 50 years, and he was a property owner/landlord. James Jackson and Beverly Jackson became pillars in the North Heights Community.

James had an infectious smile. He worked tirelessly to help family and friends whenever he could. He always attended his grandchildren’s sporting events. He enjoyed all sports, but he especially loved playing and watching football and baseball. He played golf and could be found on all of the city courses. He could be found socializing with his golfing buddies. He participated in many golf tournaments and functions for over 45 years. He was instrumental in starting the Pride of the Panhandle Golf Club with his brother Ben.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Otha Jackson; son, Malcolm G. Jackson; several brothers; and 2 sisters.

Legacy He Leaves

James Jackson is survived by his wife, Beverly Jackson; children: Carmen Heath and husband Dwayne (Oklahoma City, OK) , Carla Jackson (Seagoville, TX), and Mark Jackson (Mesquite, TX); grandchildren, Indrea B. Jackson, Malcolm D. Heath, Evan M. Heath, Corbin Mayberry, and Jahaden Jackson; great-grandchildren-girls: Malan E. Jackson, and Makiyah D. Heath. Three Brothers: S.T. Jackson, Ben Jackson both of Amarillo, and Donald Denman, of California. A host of nieces, nephews, and good friends all to cherish his legacy and memory.
