Michael "Mike" Smith

Michael “Mike” Smith, of Canyon, TX passed away March 17, 2025.

Visitation will be from 5-6:30 PM, Wednesday, March 19, 2025, at Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

A graveside service will be at 1:00 PM, Thursday, March 20, 2025, at Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.

Mike was born May 27, 1953 in Muskogee, OK to Joe B. and Lucille (Huggins) Smith. He played music in multiple bands starting in junior high and continued through the rest of his life. He graduated from Muskogee High School then attended and graduated from Connors State College. Mike married the love of his life Stacy Berry on June 8, 1996. Together, they owned and operated several veterinary clinics and an equine breeding facility. Mike founded and operated Buffalo Towing of Canyon. He also served as a park ranger at Palo Duro Canyon State Park and Camp Don Harrington. Mike was the lead veterinary technician in the large animal food department at Oklahoma State University Vet School.

Mike loved the outdoors. He had a lifelong love of horses, always involved in breeding, training, roping, and trail riding. He was a devoted Papa and a loving father-in-law.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Jamie Sue Smith; parents; brother, Harry Lee Smith; and nephew, Shane Smith.

Mike is survived by his wife, Stacy Smith; sons, Justin Smith and wife Candice of Canyon, TX and Jacob Smith and wife Megan of Ft. Gibson, OK; mother-in-law, Mary Berry of Canyon, TX; brother-in-law, Dr. Stuart Berry and wife Joy of Amarillo, TX; brother, David Smith and wife Karen of Riverton, WY; grandchildren, Madison Plunkett, Brayden Vinson, Brock Smith, and Harley Smith; nephew, Eric Smith; and nieces, Hannah and Morgan Berry.
