Melvin G. Jayroe, 92, of Canyon, Texas passed away on August 29, 2022.

Private services will be held.

Melvin was born on January 7, 1930, to Perry and Ima Corbitt Jayroe in Amarillo.

Melvin was active in scouting all of his life starting with Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Sea Scouts and receiving his Eagle Scout Award the same year he graduated from Amarillo High in 1948. He joined the Air Force that same year. After the Air Force service, he graduated from Amarillo College after two years and attended West Texas State University. He was employed by Southwestern Public Service Co. where he served in different capacities ending in Hereford, TX as District Manager. He joined Lone Star Agency as a partner in 1969. Melvin served, while in Hereford, as president of the Chamber of Commerce, Lions Club, and Secretary of the Appraisal District. He also served as a City Commissioner and as Mayor Pro Tem. He was a member of Gideons International. Melvin gave his life to the LORD at 7 years old. He married the love of his life, Beverly Gillespie Autry in 1976. They both were licensed Realtors and spent the next 20 years working together in Real Estate. Melvin was active in Real Estate receiving his Real Estate License in Texas and Colorado. He received his G.RI. and C.R.S. designations and served 2 years as Real Estate Board President in Hereford and 2 years as MLS State Chairman as well as 2 years as State District Vice President. Melvin was also a licensed private pilot.

Melvin is survived by his wife, Beverly; a daughter, Tonya Demirjian and husband Bob of Las Vegas, NV; two sons, Blake Autry and wife Denise, and Bruce C. Autry and wife Pam all of Amarillo, TX; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one special little companion, “Gabby”, their Toy Schnauzer.
