Melody was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on November 3, 1957, to Lillian Nadine (Martin) Bailey and Edwin “Ed” Richard Bailey. Her time in OKC was short, as her family relocated to Amarillo, TX. Melody had a large family with 5 brothers and 2 sisters and she was the youngest of 8 with an age gap of 30 years from youngest to oldest. Melody graduated from Caprock High School in 1976.
She met the love of her life, Drew Davis, who was a co-worker at Heritage Cabinets in 1985. They married the following year on September 27, 1986. Their love continued to bloom for nearly 38 years. Melody attended Amarillo College to receive her Associates Degree. Those years followed with 2 daughters and 4 wonderful grandchildren. Melody was a homemaker and woman of many talents and hobbies. She was a devoted Christian and loved the Lord and loved to serve the Lord. She spent her time leading multiple children's choirs through the years in her church, doing anything and everything for her husband and daughters, and loving others. As her children got older, she went back to work as a bookkeeper in various churches through the years. Her hobbies included sewing, ceramics, and a multitude of crafting abilities. She also enjoyed the outdoors in her garden, which she had the greenest of thumbs, and spending time at the lake; fishing. She loved to invite and entertain family and friends in her home. Her companionship was deeply valued by her lifelong family and friends. She was blessed with two friends that were 50+ years of friendship. She had a contagious laughter and shared her great sense of humor.
Melody was known as Aunt Mel to many generations of nieces and nephews and to most people who met her.
In her later adult life, she struggled with many health issues, one ended that changed her way of life, by adapting to using a wheelchair. However, that did not stop her from living each day of her life to the fullest. She was overcome with joy to hear the news of becoming a Granny. She was blessed with 4 wonderful grandchildren who adored her. They brought her so much joy and laughter!
Melody’s biggest part of life was to share Jesus with everyone. She had the biggest heart and loved people like Jesus. She was the ultimate prayer warrior and was always a listening ear to anyone that needed it.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lillian and Ed Bailey, all of her brothers and sisters; as well as some nieces and nephews.
She is survived by her husband, Drew Davis of Amarillo, TX and her daughters Summer Bishop and husband Jerrod of Canyon, TX and Makayla Day and husband Deshane of Amarillo, TX. She is also survived by her 4 treasured grandchildren: John Bishop, Havyn Day, Lillian Bishop and Carson Day; and an abundance of nieces and nephews; and her dear friends who became like family.
Melody’s main goal in life was to let others know Jesus loves them. In lieu of flowers, the family would like for you to consider donating to K-Love (her favorite radio station) or a Christian organization to help continue to spread the love of Jesus to further his Kingdom.
