Maxine Higgins – August 14, 2012


Maxine Higgins, 91, of Amarillo died on Tuesday, August 14, 2012.
Services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, August 17, 2012 at the Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount Blvd. with Pastor Brian Hesse and Pastor David Schatte officiating. Burial will be at Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.
Maxine was born in 1920 in Liberal, Kansas. The youngest of five children born to Berta Cecile Jackson Frey and Franklin M. Frey. Her father was an engineer for Burlington Railroad and her mother worked for the Fort Worth Independent School District.
Maxine sang in a trio as a teenager in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. She married the love of her life, Charles G. Higgins on February 14, 1940. They had two daughters.
In 1966, they opened Publisher’s Typographic, a hot metal typesetting service in Amarillo which they owned until 1982. They also sold real estate and raised cattle.
She was preceded in death by her husband, three brothers, one sister and two grandchildren.
Survivors include her daughters, Charline Sprouse and husband Marvin and Donna McCafferty and husband Robert; eight grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and sixteen great-great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank Pastor Alan Williamson, her special friend, Emily, and all the wonderful caregivers at The Ware, Juniper I and Juniper II, and the loving care given by BSA Hospice.
