Francis Clemence, 89, of Amarillo, Texas passed away on December 25, 2023.
Visitation with the family will be from 5-6:00 p.m., Friday, December 29, 2023, at Boxwell B
rothers Funeral Home, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
Memorial services will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 30, 2023, at Valleyview Church of the Nazarene, 7601 S Western St., with Gavin Fothergill officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
Max Francis Clemence was born on Christmas Day 1934 to Isaac and Viola Clemence in Waynoka Oklahoma; he was the sixth of their
seven children. Max grew up, graduated from Waynoka High School, and enlisted in the US Army. Upon returning from service, he accepted a position with the Santa Fe railroad and married his high school sweetheart, Bobbie Hannafious. Max and Bobbie settled in Amarillo, Texas, and started their family. The couple had three children: Chris, Cary, and Teresa. Max devoted the greater part of his professional life to the Pantex plant, where he held the position of metrology lab technician. Concurrently, he tirelessly pursued numerous side jobs and accomplished the extraordinary task of constructing the house that he and Bobbie called home for 24 years. He retired from Pantex after 37 years. Max continued serving his country in the Texas National Guard throughout his career, retiring as a master sergeant. Max also exceptionally served his church, holding various positions throughout his lifetime Max was a Godly man, and he served his family, country, church, friends, and everyone well. Everyone who knew Max loved him. He was quietly brilliant, a master carpenter, a very dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He led by excellent example in everything he did.
The family does not grieve as those who have no hope (1 Thess. 4:13-18). See you soon, Max!
Max is preceded in death by his parents and his 6 siblings: Dora Dean, Jean, Mae, Arlo, Kirk, & Lee; granddaughter Sammantha Bilbrey; and daughter-in-law Jane Clemence.
He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Bobbie; son, Chris Clemence, and wife Kim; son, Cary Clemence; daughter, Teresa Hill, and husband Barry; grandson, Max Clemence II; granddaughters, Casey Phipps and husband Garrett, Katie Hill and fiancé Samuel Hoyl, Libby Clemence; and grandson-in-law, Jockson Bilbrey. He is also survived by three great-grandchildren: Kylee Gonzales, Parker Phipps, and Allie Phipps; and by his lifelong friend, Veston Hinderliter.
The family suggests memorials in lieu of flowers to the food pantry at Valleyview Church of the Nazarene, 7601 S. Western, Amarillo, Texas 79110.
