Mary Margaret Ramsey was born in Vernon, Texas on October 31, 1938 to Paul and Margaret Ramsey. She grew up the youngest of four children in a loving family. She graduated from Oklaunion High School and began attending Midwestern State University, then she became engaged to Kenneth Oliver. The couple was married on January 21, 1958, and they walked through life hand-in-hand for the next 65 years. Kenneth and Mary moved to England a few months after the wedding and lived there while Kenneth served in the US Air Force. After completing his service, they returned to Texas and settled in Amarillo.
The Lord blessed the couple with three sons: Donald, Kevin, and Todd. Mary used her creative talents to make a beautiful home for her family, although her three active boys kept her on her toes. She was passionate about cooking delicious meals for her family and is famous for her extravagant Thanksgiving dinners. But she also enjoyed simple pleasures, like a McDonald’s hamburger and fries. Mary loved music, and she taught piano lessons for several years and played the piano during worship services at the Amarillo Salvation Army for 17 years. She especially enjoyed her beloved little dog, Button. Most importantly, Mary shared God’s love with her family and friends through her beautiful smile and kind spirit. Mary was a devoted Christian and member of First Baptist Church of Amarillo. She wanted everyone to know that God Jesus loves us and still speaks to us today.
Mary is preceded in death by her parents, sister Wanda White, and sister Eva Jo Goss. She leaves behind her husband Kenneth Oliver, son Donald Oliver and wife Marsha of Hurst, son Kevin Oliver and wife Jenne of Canyon, and son Todd Oliver of Amarillo, grandchildren Kyler Todd, Amy Perry, Aaron Oliver, and Adam Oliver, two great-grandchildren, brother Donald Ray Ramsey of Vernon, and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests making contributions in Mary’s honor to The Loft of First Baptist Church of Amarillo or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
