Mary Elizabeth King-Poynor, 87, of Amarillo, TX passed away January 29, 2025.
Visitation will be from 6:30-7:30 PM, Friday, January 31, 2025 at Boxwell Brothers, 2800 Paramount. Graveside service will be at 1:00 PM, Saturday, February 1, 2025 at Childress Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.
Mary was born March 27, 1937 in Childress, TX to James Goodson and Bertie Bradshaw. She married Dean King on February 23, 1958 in Childress. Mary worked at the County Clerk’s Office in Childress from 1956-1960. She then began her banking career fulfilling roles as an officer in Children, Abilene, and Amarillo from 1960-1988. She married Emmett Poynor on August 5, 2000 in Amarillo. Mary then went to work for Cal Farley’s Boys Ranch as the Vice President of Donor Services from 1989-2012. She was a longtime member of Paramount Baptist Church but was currently looking for a new home church prior to her passing.
She is preceded in death by her first husband Dean King; her second husband, Emmett Poynor; and son, Bruce A. King.
Mary is survived by her son, Tony G. King, Chaplain Major, USAF (ret) and his wife Melinda; daughter-in-law, Jo King; grandchildren, Katrina King Law and husband Colin, Shelby King Reamer and husband Clayton, Becca King, and Bailey King, Captain, U.S. Army, and wife Katlyn; and great-grandchildren, Cowboy Law, Ranger Law, Brinley Reamer, and Ennsley Reamer.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to USO, Breast Cancer Research, or a charity of your choice.
