Mary Fleming, 75, of Amarillo, died Saturday, October 26, 2013.

Services will be at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2013, in Anna St. Church of Christ with Gene Shelburne and Lyndon Latham officiating.  Burial will be in Llano Cemetery.  Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Mrs. Fleming was born on January 11, 1938 in Amarillo to Elvora and Woodrow Allen.  Being a “preacher’s kid” she spent early childhood in several places.  During elementary school the family relocated to Denison where she graduated from high school.  She moved to Amarillo in 1956, and began work in the retail clothing field, being employed at Klines, and Colberts.  Returning in 1960, Amarillo has been her home since that time. She was a homemaker.

In addition to being a homemaker, she was an enthusiastic supporter of Amarillo Christian School.  Other volunteer work included the Northwest Texas Hospital Auxiliary, Potter County Senior Citizen Committee, and Meals on Wheels.  Being instrumental in the establishing the Meals on Wheels program, the Amarillo-Globe Times honored her in an accolade for service as the first Coordinator.  She had a passion for the serving the elderly.

In 1983, she and Darrell purchased a property west of Trinidad, Colorado and revived a previous name, Stonewall Guest Ranch.  Mary had an immediate vision of changing the operation to focus on family reunions and church groups.  By her ingenuity and many garage sales, the place took on the atmosphere of a visit to Granny’s house, providing a blessing to groups from all over the tri-state area.

The family would like to say a special thank you to the staff at The Cottages at Quail Creek where Mary has been a resident for three years, and to Odyssey Hospice staff for the compassionate service they provided.

She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Darrell Fleming, of the home; a son, Louis Fleming and wife Jacque of Andrews, TX; a daughter, Darla Bracken and husband Stuart of Amarillo; two brothers, Roger Allen of San Angelo and Randy Allen of Lubbock; her grandchildren, Jessica Shopoff and husband Patrick; Stefanie Bailey and husband Joe; Macey Ochesky and husband Justin; Dustin Bracken and Meridith Bracken; her great-grandchildren, Hudson, Disney, Everett and Declan.

The family suggests memorials to the Christian Relief Fund, P.O. Box 19670, Amarillo, TX 79114-1670  or Meals on Wheels, 219 W. 7th, Amarillo, TX 79101.

The family will receive friends from 6pm – 7pm, Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2013, at the funeral home.
