Martha Elizabeth Strader entered this world at 11:10 pm on July 8, 1948 to parents Lucy Elizabeth Mizer Strader and Hugh Berlin (Red) Strader joining a sister Jean Strader Armstrong and a brother Jack Curry. She lived in Borger and later moved to Dumas where she attended school and graduated in 1969.
Martha was a past Worthy Advisor and Mother Advisor for the Order of Rainbows for girls. She attended many functions and loved to talk about all the trips they made and the things they got into. Martha later became a member of the Order of Eastern Star Dumas #653 and was initiated May 15, 2001, where she continued her community service with them.
Martha went to cosmetology school and became a licensed beautician in 1940. She worked at Nina’s Beauty Shop and later at Curl Up and Dye, she finished her career at Judy’s Beauty Shop. Martha loved to laugh and THINK she was being naughty—but she really never was.
In 2011 her health began to decline when she was diagnosed with lung cancer. She continued to live by herself until she started falling and broke her leg. She really needed more care and her co-worker and best friend Judy Penland moved her into her home and took great care of her. When she needed more skilled nursing care she joined the family at Great Plains Nursing Home. She actually thought she was working there the way she wanted to take care of the other residents there. She informed me and Judy of all things going on at least 4 or 5 times a day. Lord love her, she could wear out a cell phone. We will miss those calls! She hung up the phone on December 22, 2024 at 4:00 pm. R.I.P my friend.
Martha was preceded in death by her mother and father and her brother Jack Curry.
She is survived by a sister, Jean Strader Armstrong and her nieces Geneva and husband Terri Gifford of Borger and by sisters Judy Penland and her family and Patsy Blue and her family.
