Marti was born on October 17, 1949 in El Paso, Texas to Virginia and Dale Simpson. She grew up in Albuquerque, NM until age 8 when her family moved to Lubbock. Her Dad became a student the first year Lubbock Christian College began, and was hired on staff the next year where he served for many years. Marti attended Lubbock Christian school and College and in 1970 met Royse. They were married on January 3, 1971.
Marti worked at Charlie Martin pharmacy in Amarillo while raising her kids. Then she worked as a church secretary at Eastwood Church of Christ in El Paso and later Skillman Church of Christ in Dallas for a total of 25 years. She was the friendly voice on the phone or smiling face you saw when walking into the church office. Her beaming smile and kindness were legendary. With her genuine care and concern for people, she could make friends with anyone.
She will be dearly missed, but the family takes comfort knowing that Marti's faith was in Jesus. She lived a life of devoted faith to him and we know that he greeted her with “Well done, my good and faithful servant. Enter into your rest.”
Marti was predeceased by her parents, Dale and Virginia, and the love of her life, Royse.
Marti is survived by her son Matthew Thigpen and wife Wendy and grandkids Nathan and Holly of Guatemala, and daughter, Holly Eaton and her husband, Bryan of Lewisville, and granddaughter Sophia Bell and her husband Bryson and great-granddaughter Adalynn of Denton, Texas; sister Rosellen Chisholm and husband Claudio and nieces Lisa, Suzy, and Julie and their families; brother Charles Simpson and wife Malika and nieces and nephews Becca & Samy and Steve & Rachel; plus many more cousins, in-laws, and great nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Thigpen Medical Mission and School in Guatemala. Donations can be made online at: https://givesendgo.com/Thigpenmedicalmissionguatemala or through an offline donation by contacting the family directly.
