Marlene Sue Johnson – May 24, 2018

Marlene Sue Johnson, 79, of Amarillo died Thursday, May 24, 2018.

Memorial services will be at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 29, 2018, at Hillside Christian Church Chapel, 6100 S. Soncy Rd., in Amarillo with Greg Corona officiating.  Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

She was born in Stillwater, Oklahoma to Ival and Geneva Hesser.  She grew up on their farm near Stillwater and attended schools there as well as graduating from high school in Clovis, New Mexico in 1956.  She met her husband Jerry during that time and they were married in Clovis on March 2, 1957.

She was a member of Paramount Terrace Christian Church and later Hillside Christian Church for many years.  She was a ready and willing volunteer for many church related activities while raising her girls.

She is survived by her husband, Jerry; daughters, Debbie (Lance) Foreman, of Norman, OK, Ginger (Doug) Roark, of Albuquerque, NM, Jill (Greg) McMurry, of Amarillo, and Jerriann (Al) Mucino, of Amarillo; grandchildren, Heidi Clark, of Newcastle, OK, Amy Burnett, of Norman, OK, Sean Singleton, of Albuquerque, NM, Jon Eric Singleton, of Albuquerque, Ben McMurry, of Amarillo, and Shalena Lee, of Amarillo; seven nieces and nephews; 8 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Jack, of Stillwater, OK.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ival and Geneva Hesser; a grandson, Zac McMurry; and an infant sister.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Cal Farley’s Boys Ranch, Hillside Christian Church, Harrington Cancer Center; or a charity of their choice.

Special thanks to Hospice Care of the Southwest nurses who provided exceptional care, especially Melissa, and to the physicians, nurses, and staff at Harrington Cancer Center.

    Marlene was such a wonderful part of our family and will be missed by each of us.
    She was a gracious ,kind and loving person.
    God be with her till we meet again.

    I’ve known Marlene most of my life, my folks & her folks were very good friends. I’ve enjoyed talking to Marlene over the last few months. Didn’t get to she her a whole lot but she & Jerry & girls were always in my prayers. I’m glad she’s in Heaven looking out for us. She is truly an angel now. Love you guys, Judy
