Mark Jeffrey Trull – September 17, 2017

Mark’s journey began on March 22, 1954 in Visalia, CA when he was the new baby son born to Mary and George Trull.  He joined his older brother, Michael and shortly after they moved to Arizona.  After a few years, they returned to California and settled in Modesto.
As an adult, Mark worked as a barber with his buddies, John and Eddie, enjoying creating new hair styles, especially for crying two-year olds. While he was a barber, he met the love of his life, Diane. A month later, at a local pizza parlor, with Diane’s two little cousins, Jeff and John, as his wing men, he got on his knees and proposed. On May 24,1980, they had a beautiful garden wedding with family and friends. Then in 1983 they began their family with Katie and Tyler joined them three years later.
Mark loved sports and his passion was teaching children the game of baseball…to play well, to play hard, and to play fair.  Winning was important, but being a team and working together was the key to success. He was a coach for over 40 years and loved every moment.  Most recently he loved coaching his granddaughter, Hannah, in her varsity softball years and helping Sophia to learn and love the game.
Mark loved working and loved the relationship he had with his fellow employees and helping all of them in any way he could.  He felt helping others made a difference in his life and hopefully in theirs. He left a job in California at Foster Farms and went to Missouri to be part of a startup company called Premium Standard Farms.  In 1998, he received a promotion and was transferred to the Dalhart, TX operation, and has remained an integral part of the agricultural industry. Most recently he returned to JBS Pork and loved being “back on the farm” with all of his friends.
In 2003, Mark and Diane took on rescuing animals. Diane had come home with an idea from her fourth-grade students to save homeless animals, as they did not understand why they had to die. Mark’s response was that it was a great idea to teach kids about compassion and empathy and to save lives.  He stated, “how many homeless dogs could there be?” and quickly found out there was an endless amount.  In fourteen years, he was instrumental in saving over 14,000 animals.
In addition to saving animals, Mark found so many of the students involved impacted his life.  He loved helping them to grow, love animals, and learn responsibility. It was with the shelter that Kat and later her son Xander, entered his life and quickly became part of our family, and fourteen years later they are an irreplaceable addition.
Mark felt life was a challenge and you had to meet it each day.  He often said, “put on your boots, take one step and then another, and carry on.”  He loved all of his family and friends and they will greatly miss his love, wit and compassion for others.
On September 17, 2017, Mark left this world to join God’s team. Mark is survived by his wife, Diane, his children, Katie and her husband, Tucker Foster, Tyler and his fiancé, Tristian and Kat Scherer Berg. His grandchildren, Hannah, Sophia, Xander, Olivia, and Taylyn. His parents, Mary and John Feeley. His step brothers, John and his wife, Lori, Ron de Wolf and his wife, Vera. His brother in law, David Fuller and Kathy, and his in-laws, Jackie and Tim Abney, and many aunts, uncles and cousins. In addition to his many dear friends that weren’t just friends but instead cherished family.
Mark is preceded in death by his brother, Michael and his mother in law, Betty Fuller and his step brother, Donald Feeley.
In lieu of flowers, please make remembrances to DAWGSnTEXAS, PO Box 911, Dalhart, TX 79022, or The Mark Trull Employee Relief Fund in care of First State Bank in Dalhart, Texas.
Services will be held in Dalhart, Texas on Friday, September 22 at 3 in the afternoon. Services will be at Central United Methodist Church in Dalhart. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors of Dumas, 500 N. Maddox Ave.

For a few months my jbs office area was a few feet away from marks office. He carried himself honorably and was always sincere in his willingness to assist others and improve everything around him. What I will never forget is every morning he passed my desk he said “how are you doing brother”. It was a great way to start the day.

    Diane and Family,
I was very saddened to hear of Mark’s passing. Both of you were an inspiration to me and kids across the nation for the work you did with DAWGS and still do today. The video we did for Public Television is still one of the best things I ever helped create. May God watch over you and your family during this time of sadness. You have my deepest sympathies during this tragic time.

Diane, you are Mark are instrumental in me having my best friend Molly. She is a six year old Brittany spaniel, so full of life. I also had the honor of working with Mark at JBS. Mark left an imprint on my life and I will never be the same because of the wonderful man Mark was. Mark cheered for all of us at JBS and made us all want to be better men and women. I loved Mark dearly and will miss him so.

Diane and family, very very saddened to hear this. When i worked at PSF I had a son with medical issues and I will never forget Mark reaching out to me with encouragement that I could handle what was put in my plate. He was a wonderful man that I have thought of often. May God hold you all in his hands to help heal your hearts in this time of hurt.

Dearest Diane and family, Robin E. Anderson
and I (the “cat ladies”) send our deepest condolences.
I enjoyed talking to Mark that one day and I could tell
he was a very sincere and tenderhearted guy especially
about animals. You two did a tremendous job with
the D. A. W. G. S. operation,…. even helped with the cats!! Thank you…… for such wonderful examples of
caring and sacrifice!! We send our love and blessings
to you at this time! [ I think it would be great if we,
the caring people of these communities, could set up
a fund, perhaps at your bank, honoring Mark >>>>
….. something like the MARK JEFFREY TRULL FUND
    …… FOR D. A. W. G. S. GOD BLESS YOU!!!
    Sincerely, Carol A. Sublette.

If you never had the pleasure of knowing Mark, you missed a wonderful man. He always had time and love to give his family, friends and the animals that came through the shelter and he had a special soft spot for kids. We met Mark and Diane years ago after we read an article about DAWGSnTexas and wanted to come out and help. We’ve been part of their extended family ever since. He left a void when he was taken from us and he will be greatly missed.

    Dear Diane,
What a shock to read of Mark’s passing. My thoughts and prayers are for you and your family at this time. While it has been years since we worked together at Perkins, you have not been forgotten by our kindergarten team. I only hope that you reach out to those around you to help you through this process and know that God’s love will sustain you even in your darkest times. Give Katie and Tyler a special hug from me as each of you left a positive impression on me
