Margie Fern Carpenter, 83, of Amarillo went to be with the Lord on Monday, March 10, 2025.
Services will be at 11:00 AM, Thursday, March 13, 2025, in Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel with Pastor Tommy Spencer of the Church of Bushland officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
Margie was born on August 17, 1941, in Shamrock, Texas to Ruby Bell and John Harrison Essary. They moved to Amarillo when she was a small child. She attended Emerson Elementary, Horace Mann Middle School, and Palo Duro High School.
She married Alton Kent Brooks on June 14, 1958, in Amarillo, Texas. Together they had 3 daughters, Carrie Jean Escoto, Connie Lee Hawkins, and Cristy Lynn Lomeli. He preceded her in death on August 27, 1972.
Margie married John Robert Carpenter on August 13, 1977, in Amarillo, Texas. They added another daughter to the family, Candis Dawn Fetterman. He preceded her in death on September 5, 2015.
She worked in the take-out department of Myers Drumstick and retired from the Amarillo Independent School District where she worked in the cafeteria at Travis Middle School. She loved providing food services for all the students and they loved her and her sweet tea. Margie loved to bowl. She bowled in several leagues in Amarillo and utilized all the bowling centers.
Margie enjoyed following her daughters and their spouse around watching them play all their sports and it didn’t stop there she continued being the number 1 “Grams” and Grandma” to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was the backbone of our family and loved going to all the family holiday gatherings and birthday celebrations.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, three sisters, a granddaughter, Tanna Lee Escoto, and a son-in-law, Russell Scott Hawkins.
Margie is survived by four daughters, Carrie Escoto (Elmer), Connie Hawkins (Gary Homen), Cristy Lomeli (Pete), and Candis Fetterman (JR); grandchildren, Gold Stone “Stony”, Shay Preciado (Louie), Cameron Camarillo (Teeka), Autumn Lomeli, Baillie Lomeli, Brittanie Lomeli, Chancelor Hawkins (Tori), Campbell Homen, Kolton Carpenter (Madi), Harlee Wilson, and Zoie Fetterman; great-grandchildren, Hagen Escoto, Preston Escoto, Cayden Preciado, Cadence Nickelberry, Braylen Preciado, Bryce Lomeli, Caybree Camarillo, Anderlei Gonzales, Battle Escoto, Ian Gonzales, Zae Ruiz, Tayber Camarillo, Oakley Lomeli, Koa Hawkins, and John Carpenter, all of Amarillo; mother-in-law, Marie Swaim of Gadsend, AL; three sisters-in-law, Sue Essary of Coldspring, TX; Marilyn Elrod of Gadsden, AL; David Carpenter (Kathy) of Stathom, GA; and Wanda Lincoln (Neal) of Mayer, AZ; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins; as well as, many friends within the bowling community.
The family will receive friends from 6 – 7:30 PM, Wednesday, March 12, 2025, at the funeral home.
