Margaret Anne Thornton, 80, of Amarillo, died Friday, March 9, 2012.
Services will be at 10:00 a.m., Monday, March 12, 2012 at Polk Street United Methodist Church with the Rev. Kevin Deckard officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
Mrs. Thornton was born Jan. 29, 1932, in El Dorado, KS to Virgil and LeVara Cassel. She married Dale Thornton on Dec. 7, 1956 in Dumas. Mrs. Thornton worked in the oil and gas industry for Diamond Shamrock and Maxus Exploration for more than thirty years. After retiring, she continued to do bookwork for several friends at the Craig Retirement Center.
Mrs. Thornton loved doing volunteer work for Polk Street United Methodist Church and playing bridge. She was an avid Dallas Mavericks fan.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Dale; four brothers; and two sisters.
Survivors include two sons, Robert Thornton of Taos, NM and Ranger Thornton of Amarillo; a daughter, Renea Curry and husband Mike of Stinnett; three grandchildren, Clayton Curry of Dallas, Calvin Curry of San Antonio and Carson Curry of Dallas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be to Olivia’s Angels – BSA Hospice, P.O. Box 950, Amarillo, TX 79105; or Polk Street United Methodist Church, 1401 S. Polk St., Amarillo, TX 79101.
The family will receive friends from 2:00-4:00 p.m., Sunday, March 11, 2012 at the funeral home.
