Louis James Thomas – August 30, 2012


Louis James Thomas, 89, of Amarillo, died Thursday, August 30, 2012.
Services will be 3:00 p.m. Saturday, September 1, 2012 in Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount Blvd with Don Travis officiating.  Private burial will be in Claude Cemetery.
Mr. Thomas was born on September 5, 1922, in Woodward, Oklahoma to Ocie and Floyd Thomas.  He had been a rancher and farmer and named Farmer of the Year in Armstrong County in 1986.  He served on the Mid Plains Rural Coop and Pullman Fuel Coop.  Mr. Thomas played with the Half Price Band Ministry for several years. He was a frequent musical guest on the Al Rogers TV Show in the 1950’s.
He was a member of Claude United Methodist Church and the Farm Bureau.  He had been an Adult Leader for the 4H Club.
He married Betty Lou Thomas on November 26, 1942 in Woodward, Oklahoma.  She preceded him in death on January 8, 2002.  He married Margaret Powell on November 21, 2006.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret, of the home; three sons and daughters-in-law, Jim and Mary Ann Thomas of Rocky Ford, Colorado; Mickey and Shirley Thomas of Choctaw, Oklahoma; and Tony and Sandy Thomas of Amarillo; grandchildren, Joni Burr, Scott Thomas, James Thomas, Holly Denney, Trev Thomas, Heather Thomas and Cara Klaus; ten great-grandchildren; a stepdaughter, Tammy Payne and husband James of Dumas; step-grandchildren, Dr. Joshua Payne, Amber Payne, Andy and Brittany Payne, and Mandi and Zane Vaden; and three step-great-grandchildren.
The family suggests memorials to Washburn Fire Dept., Rt. 1, Box 278, Claude, TX 79019; or Claude EMT, Box 195, Claude, TX 79019.
