Visitation will be from 5-6:30 p.m., Monday, April 3, 2023 at Boxwell Brothers, 2800 Paramount. Graveside services will be at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 4, 2023 in Llano Cemetery Mausoleum with Randy Srader as officiant. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.

Lorraine was born October 28, 1928, in Abilene, TX to Abraham Lincoln Musick and Willie Mae Osborne. Lorraine was born during the depression. She grew up in poverty. Thirteen children living under one small roof. Times were difficult and school was not considered a necessity. She was only able to reach the 2

nd

grade. She taught herself to read and do simple arithmetic. When she got old enough, she moved to Cleburne, TX and began sewing for Wall’s Factory. Soon meeting her husband James F. Smith. Together they raised 4 children.

During that time, they moved to Amarillo, TX. Where she opened Rene’s Daycare. For over 40 years, she took care of many family’s children. Potty training hundreds of children! Finally forced to quit in her 80’s. She loved her children and grandchildren so much! They were her pride and joy. In her free time, she loved to go to garage sales and estate sales. She enjoyed watching the Golden Girls over and over, but when Christmas time came, the sky was the limit. Decorating every inch of her house inside and out! How appropriate it was that she lived on Candy Cane Lane! Because that’s the street where the “Christmas Magic Happens.”

She is preceded in death by her parents; and siblings, Belva Fergerson, Bobby Musick, Martha Leonard, Mildred Haddock, John Musick, Lila Mae George, Mamie Bell Robbins, and Lillian Upchurch.

Lorraine is survived by daughters, Jane McKinney, Shirley Arterburn, and Cherri Taylor and husband Jerry all of Amarillo, TX; Ron Smith and wife Rita of North Carolina; grandchildren, Dustin Arterburn, Misty McKinney, Jennelle Diggs, Amanda Hartman all of Amarillo, TX, Kory Hartman and wife Kelly of Whitedeer, TX, Katie Arterburn Sitrin and husband Oliver of Dallas, TX, Jamey Smith of North Carolina, Trent and wife Christie of Florida, and Desiree Dobson and husband Rod of Retford, England. She was also blessed with 7 great-grandchildren, Keenan, Kole, and Kolin Hartman, Zander and Dax McKinney, and Daisy and Lilah Dobson; and sisters, Billie Joe Parrish of Abilene, TX, and Millie Bolyard of Cisco, TX.

We want to say a special thank you to the caregivers she had at Abundantly Blessed Group Home and the nurses from Gentiva Hospice Care. Lorraine considered them friends.
