Lola May Malone Higby – August 5, 2012


Lola May Malone Higby, 85, of Amarillo, Texas died Sunday, August 5, 2012.
Memorial services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 8, 2012 at Washington Avenue Christian Church with Lennie McCay officiating. Private burial will be at Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
Mrs. Higby was born in Paris, Texas to Henry and Mittie Malone on January 19, 1927. She graduated from Paris High School and worked at Liberty National Bank as a bookkeeper in Paris, Texas and Blue Cross/Blue Shield Insurance Company in Baton Rouge, LA. They moved to Amarillo in 1974, Lola and her husband Bob founded City Glass Company in January of 1978. Mrs. Higby was Vice President, office manager and bookkeeper until her retirement in 1992. She was a member of Paramount Terrace Christian Church, Lamplighters SS Class and the Hillside Christian Church, now a member of Washington Avenue Christian Church in Amarillo, the Palo Duro Golf Club and the Palo Duro Chapter of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas.
Lola Malone and Bob Higby were married August 3, 1947 at the First Christian Church in Paris, Texas. They have lived in Paris, Irving and Wichita Falls, Texas; Baton Rouge, LA and Amarillo, Texas. The Higby’s spent their winter months in McAllen, Texas since 1992. Bob and Lola shared sixty-five years together in marriage.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry Malone and Mittie Whitney Malone and three brothers, Floyd E. Malone, William (Bill) Malone and Bob Henry Malone.
Surviving is her husband, Bob Higby; two sons, John Ross Higby of Eugene, Oregon and Brad Higby and wife Kim of Amarillo; a daughter, Lynn Colar of Amarillo; nine grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lois McCoin of Pasadena, California and Ola Malone of Paris, Texas and several nieces and nephews.
The family suggests memorials be made to the American Heart Association, 6605 West I-40, Amarillo, Texas 79106, American Cancer Society, 3915 Bell Street, Amarillo, Texas 79109, or to Hospice Care of the Southwest, 6600 Killgore Drive #110, Amarillo, Texas 79106.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
