Lois Elaine Scheer Laubhan, 80, of Amarillo, TX passed away on April 29, 2022.

Memorial Services will be held Thursday, May 12th, 2022, at 11 A.M., at Polk St. United Methodist Church. Graveside Memorial Services will be held Friday, May 13th, 2022, at 11 A.M. at Fairview Cemetery in Follett, Texas.

Lois Elaine Scheer Laubhan was born in Shattuck, Oklahoma, on December 14, 1941, to Sam and Annie Scheer. Lois grew up in Follett, Texas, a community where love and watchfulness was expressed by a loving hand from relatives and friends, common in small communities all over the Great Plains. Lois began playing the piano at an early age. She played the piano in the church where her grandfather Reverend Otto Scheer preached and continued until her graduation from high school.

Lois graduated from Follett High School in 1960, and immediately began work on her life’s dream, becoming an English teacher. Lois earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from West Texas State College in 1963 and married Rodney Laubhan, her elementary school sweetheart, in the same year. She then began her teaching career in Friona, TX. Lois earned her Master of Education degree in 1967 while simultaneously teaching full time. She continued teaching English and German in the Hereford and Canadian school districts. She retired from the Canadian ISD with 37 years of service doing what she loved, teaching high school students.

Lois and Rodney lived all their lives in the Texas Panhandle. Upon retiring in 2000 they moved to Amarillo, Texas and loved traveling. Lois liked reminding Rodney that she visited all 50 states outdoing his visits of 47.

Lois was a Methodist. She played piano and organ at the First United Methodist Church in Canadian, Texas, and was a member of Polk Street United Methodist Church, Amarillo, Texas.

Lois was a member of the Aldersgate Sunday School Class, President of the Amarillo Antique Club, and relished the discussions with friends in her book club. Lois was a life member of The Texas State Teachers Association, Sigma Tau Delta Professional English Honor Society, and Mu Phi Epsilon.

Lois was beloved by family and friends for her quick wit, exacting nature, and desire for us to be our best selves. As a teacher, she encouraged her student’s best efforts and was always pleased when she heard from a student who had benefited from her teaching. We will miss her laugh and encouraging spirit.

Lois is survived by her best friend and loving spouse of 57 years, Rodney Laubhan of Amarillo, her two daughters, Anja Laubhan and husband Tom Ball of Prosper, Texas, Erin Laubhan of Amarillo, and granddaughter Abigail Robyn Wolfe, two aunts, an uncle, many cousins and a host of great friends.

Memorials honoring Lois can be made to either of two scholarships funds: The Aldersgate scholarship Fund, Polk Street United Methodist Church, 1401 S Polk, Amarillo, TX 79101, or The Lois Elaine Scheer Laubhan Academic Scholarship Fund, established with the Follett Educational Corporation, PO Drawer 28, Follett, Texas 79034.
