Lejeune M. Newton, 92, of Amarillo died Saturday, Oct. 20, 2012.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2012, in Llano Cemetery Mausoleum with the Rev. Marvin James officiating. Burial will be in Llano Garden Mausoleum. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
Lejeune was born June 8, 1920, in Clovis, N.M. She married John E. Newton on May 10, 1984, in Clovis.
Lejeune worked for Diamond Shamrock. She also worked for Santa Fe Railroad for 32 years, retiring in 1983. She was a member of the National Association of Railway Business Women and was honored as Railway Woman of the Year.
She was a member of the Daughters of the Nile, Khiva Temple No. 70, and was a Red Cross Gray Lady at Cannon Air Force Base in Clovis. She also was a member of First Christian Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John E. Newton, on March 29, 2007.
Survivors include a nephew, Don Montgomery of Los Lunas, N.M.; two nieces, Diane Smith and Janet Fowler, both of Albuquerque, N.M.; two great-nieces, Tina Anne Garcia and Shannon Smith, both of Albuquerque; a great-great-niece, Elizabeth Anne Clark; and a great-great-nephew, Daulton Michael Clark.
The family suggests memorials be to Khiva Shrine Temple Crippled Children Fund, P.O. Box 328, Amarillo, TX 79105; or a favorite charity.
