Services will be at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 21, 2013, in Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel. Private family burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
Larry was born July 20, 1922, in Shattuck, Okla. to Kathrine Mae Burgie Stitt and Leslie Warren Stitt, Sr., moving to Amarillo in approximately 1924. He graduated from Amarillo High School in 1939 and later from UT Austin with an RBA in Accounting.
He enlisted in the U.S. Navy on Aug. 25, 1942 serving until Aug. 31, 1945. Larry re-enlisted May 2, 1951 serving until Nov. 20, 1951. He was a lieutenant serving aboard the USS Honolulu in the Pacific front of World War II and in Korea as a bomb disposal officer. Larry was honorably discharged both times.
Larry began a long career as a certified public accountant on Aug. 7, 1948, retiring on July 31, 1999.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman, civilian pilot and member of the Quiet Birdmen, a sometime cattle rancher and a volunteer with Amarillo Little Theater. Larry was initiated into the Masons on April 27, 1973, rising through the ranks rapidly as a Fellowcraft on May 29, 1973, Master Mason on July 10, 1973, Khiva Shrine on Sept. 19, 1973 and member of Khiva Greeters and Royal Order of Jesters.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Leslie Warren Stitt, Jr.; two wives, LaRue McCanne Stitt and Kathleen “Kay” Slater Stitt; and a daughter, Patricia RuNell Stitt Coons.
Survivors include a son-in-law, David Coons; two grandchildren, Kevin Coons and Courtnay VanWhy; two great-grandchildren, Emily VanWhy and Parker Saenz; a niece, Leslie Pate Braddock; and three great-nieces, Kathryn Nicole, Sarah Victoria and Elizabeth Marie Braddock.
