It is with great sadness that the family of Larry Kenneth Baggett announces his passing, age 79 of Amarillo Texas on Thursday, October 24, 2024.
Celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, November 2nd at 11:00 am at Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel at 2800 Paramount Blvd. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.
Larry was born on July 24, 1945 to Byron and Helen Baggett in Amarillo, Texas. Larry graduated from Amarillo High School in 1963. During high school he played various sports, excelling in basketball which led to a scholarship at South Plains Junior College in Levelland, Texas where he continued the love for the game.
Larry married his high school sweetheart and love of his life, Jacque Mullis Baggett, in 1965. They were happily married for 57 years.
Larry began his long career in the medical field by working with the Ambulance Service of Amarillo. In 1967, Larry was drafted by the United States Navy then later transferred to the United States Marines to serve as a Medic in Vietnam from 1967-1969. While serving in Vietnam, Larry received a Purple Heart and Bronze Star.
After his discharge from the military, Larry continued working in the medical field. He received his bachelor's degree in nursing from West Texas State University. Larry worked for High Plains Baptist Hospital/BSA over 30 years working in Amarillo, Canyon and Dalhart advancing to hospital administration. Larry retired from AIG in Amarillo.
Larry was a longtime member of Hillside Christian Church and volunteered for various organizations over the years. He loved family, sports and food! He loved watching sports on TV and never missed the opportunity to play a round of golf. His biggest joy came from spending time with his family. Poppy loved to watch his grandkids in all their sporting events, choosing his favorite food at a restaurant and spending time with Jacque on their annual trips to Taos.
Larry is survived by his son, Blue Baggett and wife Kendra; grandsons, Jackson Baggett and Blake Perdue; granddaughter, Kensley Perdue; brothers, Gary Baggett and Mike Baggett; sister-in-law, Debbie Reed and husband Butch; Larry is also survived by nephews, nieces, a great nephew and numerous close friends.
Larry is preceded in death by his wife, Jacque Baggett; parents, Byron and Helen Baggett and brother, Pat Baggett.
