Laquita Joyce Baker

Laquita Joyce Baker, 69, of Amarillo, Texas passed away on May 4, 2023.

Services will be held at a later date.

Laquita was born in Enid, Oklahoma on April 18, 1954, to Oleta and Joe Ream. She was the oldest of six children. She graduated from Caprock High School. Laquita worked for SBC/AT&T as a long distant operator for 35 years. After retirement, Laquita went to work as a care giver in the Alzheimer’s unit at the Ware Memorial Care Center. She loved her long hair and bell bottom pants – she was our little hippie. Her personality was always bubbly, and she had the most kind and generous heart.

Laquita married Dick Baker at Memorial Park in Amarillo, Texas on September 1, 1978. Together, they loved to travel. Her favorite location they visited was Costa Rica.

Laquita loved her animals. She could often be found outside watching the birds. She was a master gardener and could grow things that no one else could. She also enjoyed spending time at Baker’s Acres Peace Farm.

She was preceded in death by her brother, David Ream.

She is survived by her husband, Dick Baker; daughter, Lanita “Tylene” Floyd and husband Aaron; grandsons, Jacob, Jordan, and James Martinez; great-grandsons, Jayvien and Jarron; parents, Oleta and Joe Ream; siblings, Janita Hopkins and husband Jerry, Joleta Boyles and husband Bob, Lorita Bishop and husband Jerry, and Jerry Ream and wife Linda; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
