Lacy Rhea Borger – February 28, 2018

Lacy Rhea Borger, 90, of Amarillo died Wednesday, February 28, 2018.
Services will be at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 3, 2018, at Central Church of Christ Chapel with Lanny Newton and Greg Dowell officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
Lacy was born November 18, 1927, in the “City” of Borger, Hutchinson County, Texas one year after the oil boom started the town in 1926. His parents were Lacy Henry Borger and Veda Rhea Campbell Borger.
He graduated from Borger High School in May 1945. He attended Texas A&M in College Station as a freshman.  After his sophomore year, he volunteered for a three-year term in the Army Corps of Engineers.  He received an Honorable Discharge in 1949, and finished his degree at West Texas State University in Canyon in 1951.  He worked for McCartt Supermarkets and as an investor in various other enterprises in Amarillo.
Lacy started the Joy Bus Program at Southwest Church of Christ bringing hundreds of children to hear about Jesus every week. He served as a volunteer at the VA Hospital for seven years and served as a Potter County Commissioner from 2004-2008.
He married Colene Wheeler on September 15, 1950, at Central Church of Christ in Amarillo, Texas. Colene and Lacy were faithful members of Central Church of Christ for many years.
Lacy was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; a sister, Jo Ann Hampton; and a brother, Jack Borger.
He is survived by a daughter, Carolyn Mayfield and husband Gene, of Amarillo; a son, Mike Borger and wife Lynnae, of Pampa; a daughter, Janice Conway and husband Darrell, of Abilene; a son, Larry Borger and wife, Callie, of Amarillo; 9 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:00 p.m., Friday, March 2, 2018, at the funeral home.

    Our thoughts and prayers are with you. We’re so grateful we got to meet him when we all sang in his room. We miss you all and I know he was so proud of the legacy he left behind. His amazing family!
