In Loving Memory of Kenneth Jay Rogers Sr.

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Kenneth Jay Rogers Sr., who departed this world on September 14th, 2023, due to post-surgical complications. Kenneth, aged 71, leaves behind a legacy of service, love, and dedication that will forever be cherished by his family and community.

Born on October 31st, 1951, in Balinger, TX, Kenneth was the beloved son of John Milton “Mickey” Rogers Jr. and Myrtle Ruth Rogers. Raised in Prescott, AZ, by his devoted mother, Myrtle Ruth, and loving uncles, Raymond Perdue, John T. Queen, Jay D. Queen, and Grandmother Hilie Purdue, Kenneth developed the strong values and resilience that would guide his life’s journey.

Kenneth’s passion for journalism led him to Yavapai College before he answered the call of duty and enlisted in the United States Marines in 1971. While stationed in Hawthorne, NV, Kenneth found another love – on May 24th, 1973, he married Sandra K. Moad, his second wife, who preceded him in death after 38 years of marriage.

The couple later relocated to Borger, TX, in 1979, where they raised their three children: Karen Lee Barkley (stepdaughter, adopted), Tracy Melissa Osborne (stepdaughter), and Kenneth Jay Rogers Jr. (son). Kenneth’s commitment to serving his community became evident when he joined the Borger Police Department, where he steadily rose through the ranks to become a detective. His dedication to law enforcement continued as he later served with the Potter County Sheriff’s Department, culminating in his esteemed position as the Chief of Police of Panhandle, TX.

In 2019, Kenneth found love once again when he met Wanda Allen, whom he married on July 4th of that year. Their union brought joy and companionship into his life.

Kenneth is survived by his devoted wife, Wanda Allen Rogers, his loving sister, Candice Rogers, his stepdaughter Karen Lee Barkley, stepdaughter Tracy Melissa Osborne, and his son, Kenneth Jay Rogers Jr. He also leaves behind eight cherished grandchildren: Lindsay Rogers, Kristin Olsen, Talon Osborne, Terra Osborne, Braden Rogers, Naomi Grace Rogers, Melina Osborne, and Bella Osborne. His legacy extends to four great-grandchildren: Jordan Graves, Evelyn Hesselwood, Kenneth Jace Osborne, and Samuel Brooks.

Kenneth Jay Rogers Sr.’s life was defined by his commitment to service, his unwavering love for his family, and his dedication to making his community safer. He will be remembered for his sacrifice, his kindness, and the lasting impact he made on the lives of those he touched. May he rest in eternal peace, and may his memory live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
