Kenneth Olin Floyd, 94, passed away on April 16, 2025, in Amarillo, TX.
A celebration of life service will be on Friday, April 25, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel, located at 2800 Paramount Blvd, Amarillo, TX. Military rites are provided by Volleys for Veterans.
Kenneth was born on August 13, 1930, in Wheeler County, Texas, to loving parents Alfred Dock Floyd and Mary Myrtle (Ragan) Floyd. He spent most of his childhood in the heart of the Texas Panhandle during the Dust Bowl era, alongside his parents and siblings.
He married the love of his life, Ermal Jean Tucker, on August 23, 1952, in Edinburg, IL. They were married for over 63 years before she preceded him in death on July 22, 2015, in San Antonio, TX.
Kenneth proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1953. After his military service, he returned to his roots and enrolled at West Texas State University in Canyon, TX, where he earned a Bachelor of Business and Marketing Administration in 1961.
He spent much of his career with Diamond Shamrock Industries, retiring in 1991 as Senior Vice President of Marketing. His work allowed him to travel the world and meet incredible people. Kenneth had a remarkable gift for remembering names—an ability he honed throughout his many years in marketing.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Kenneth was deeply committed to serving his community. He volunteered in various roles, including as a "Blue Bird" at Methodist Hospital in San Antonio, where he especially enjoyed transporting new parents and their infants. He served as a loaned executive for the United Way of San Antonio and held leadership roles at St. Paul United Methodist Church in Amarillo and University United Methodist Church in San Antonio. Kenneth left a lasting impression on everyone blessed to know him.
While his family and career were great sources of pride, Kenneth also had a deep passion for golf. He was fortunate to play well into his 80s and preferred walking the course over riding. He was proud to have made three hole-in-ones during his lifetime.
Kenneth is reunited in heaven with his beloved wife and parents, as well as three brothers—Alfred D. “Doc” Floyd, Herman Floyd, and Johnny Ray Floyd—and one sister, Mildred “Aline” Floyd Whitaker.
He is survived by two sons, Gary Lynn Floyd and his wife Debbie, and Kenton Duane Floyd and his wife Barbara, both of Amarillo, TX. One brother, Donald Floyd, of Hartsville, TN. He also leaves behind five grandchildren: Lori Brooks and her husband Clark of Eastland, TX; Miranda Watson and her husband Shane; Jennifer McKinney; Aaron Tucker “T” Floyd and his wife Tylene; and Ashley Hightower and her husband Robert—all of Amarillo, TX.
He was blessed with twelve great-grandchildren: Sarah Estrada (Jacob); Shelby Michie; Caleb Michie; Alyssa, Ashlyn, Gavin, and Kyler Watson; Cadence and Brinkley McKinney; and Riley, Carsyn, and Jake Hightower. He also had three great-great-grandchildren: Luca, Milo, and Isla Estrada.
Along with his deep love for his family, Kenneth deeply loved the Lord. We take comfort in knowing he is now rejoicing in heaven, reuniting with loved ones in a beautiful homecoming.
