Juanita “Nita” Nancille Baer, 79, of Amarillo, TX
passed
away on September 5, 2022.
Memorial services will be at 10:00 A.M., Thursday, September 8, 2022, at Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel with Rev. Kevin Deckard officiating. Private burial will be at the Dumas Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
Nita was born in Big Spring, TX on June 28, 1943, to Johnny Janak and Lucille Snow. She graduated from Tascosa High School and attended Amarillo College where she was a cheerleader and joined a sorority. She then went on the attend West Texas State University where she graduated with a bachelor’s and two master’s degrees. Nita started teaching in Dumas, TX in 1967 and was at Cactus Elementary until 1970. She taught half a year at Hillcrest Elementary. Then she started teaching at the Junior High School in Dumas and taught there until 1984 and then moved to be an elementary counselor in Dumas. Nita moved to Canyon ISD as a counselor from 1988-1992. She returned to Dumas as a High School Counselor from 1992 until she retired in 1995.
Nita married John Bruce Baer on September 5, 1962.
Nita was an avid reader and sports fan. She loved basketball, tennis, and football. She also loved all animals, especially dogs. She attended Polk Street United Methodist Church.
Nita was a great mother, grandmother, and friend to all. Her grandchildren were the light in her life. She was compassionate, caring, and so loveable. She never met a stranger and you never left her side without a hug. Nita impacted a lot of lives and has definitely left a legacy behind.
She was preceded in death by her soulmate, John Bruce Baer; and her parents, John and Lucille Janak.
Survivors include daughters, Kelly Baer Stringer and husband Blake, of Amarillo, Texas, and Becky Baer Fults and husband Alvin, of Aledo, Texas; brother, John Wayne Janak and wife Karen of Austin, Texas; sister, Dru Monroe and husband Paul, of New Jersey; and grandchildren, Kyler Sullivan, Kaitlin Sullivan, Avery Stringer, Colton Fults and wife Morgan, and Cade Fults.
