John Wesley Crawford was born Sept. 30, 1933, in Clarendon to John Henry Crawford and Stella McNeil Crawford. The Crawford family moved to Amarillo, Texas in the early 1950s, where he began working with his father, John Henry, as a painting contractor. Upon his father’s passing, John continued building a successful business.
Soon afterwards, he met his first wife and together they raised three daughters. Upon the dissolution of their union, John went on to meet and marry JoAnn Faulkner and together they raised her three daughters. They were married 40 years until she passed earlier this year. During their union, they raised their grandson, Jason Crabtree. John was an avid fisherman and gambling enthusiast. He loved cooking for his friends and family and traveling with his wife.
The family would like to acknowledge all of the caregivers throughout the years who took special care of John during his illness. We are extremely grateful to Karen Alvarez, his hospice nurses and extreme gratitude must be given to JoAnn and her daughters who filled in for those of us who could not be present.
He was preceded in death by his father, John Henry Crawford, in 1961; his mother, Stella Mae Crawford in 1979; and his wife, JoAnn Crawford in 2012.
Survivors include a sister, Doris Salmon; six daughters, Pat Crawford of California, Darlene Coburn of Tennessee, and Cindy Simpson, Regina Faulkner, Diana Doyle, Denise Riggs, all of Amarillo; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be to a favorite charity.
