It is with heavy hearts that we announce John Cooksey died peacefully surrounded by his family early Saturday, October 28 at his residence following a courageous battle with cancer. Services will be held at 2 PM, Thursday, November 2, 2023, at River Fellowship Church. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Amarillo, Texas.
John was born on December 5, 1957, to Rose Anne O’Neill Moer and the late Thomas Moer in Wichita Falls, Texas. When John was three years old, Rose Anne married Noel Cooksey who adopted John and gave him the Cooksey name. John was a proud graduate of Amarillo High School and Texas A&M University.
John married the love of his life, Cindy, on March 6, 1982, and they lived a beautiful life together raising their two children. Their journey together was a testament to the power of love, commitment, and companionship. Through the highs and lows, they stood by each other’s side, creating a tapestry of beautiful moments that will forever by etched in the hearts of those who witnessed their love. Their bond was a source of inspiration and a testament to the enduring power of love. May their memory continue to bring comfort and solace to those who were fortunate enough to witness their extraordinary love story.
We mourn the loss of an individual who was truly beloved by all and had a remarkable talent for bringing laughter into the lives of others. His infectious sense of humor and quick dry wit never failed to brighten any room he entered. His ability to make people laugh was a gift that touched the hearts of many. His memory will forever be cherished as someone who brought joy and laughter to all who had the privilege of knowing him.
John was a kind and adventurous man who was deeply involved in his family’s lives. He will be remembered as a loving husband and father who prioritized spending quality time with his loved ones. His passion for the outdoors, including camping, fishing and hunting showcased his adventurous spirit. His selflessness and dedication to his family will leave a lasting impact on those who knew him.
John was an individual who exemplified a steadfast and unwavering Christian faith. His deep-rooted belief in God guided his actions and shaped his character. He lived his life as a true disciple, embodying the values of compassion, forgiveness, and love. His unwavering commitment to his faith served as an inspiration to all who knew them. His legacy will continue to shine brightly, reminding us of the power of spirituality and the impact it can have on our lives.
Preceding him in death were his father, Thomas Moer, and his step-father, Noel Cooksey, his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Joe Frank and Sarah Clark.
Survivors include his wife, Cindy Cooksey of Amarillo, Texas; his children, Ben Cooksey of Amarillo, Texas, and Campbell and Katie Cooksey of Denver, Colorado. His mother Rose Anne Cooksey of Red River, New Mexico, and siblings Charles, George, Margaret, Edwin, Chris, and David.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to 24 hours in the Canyon, an organization that supports cancer patients and survivors, and River Fellowship, John and Cindy’s home church.
