John Anthony Kager

John Anthony Kager, age 77, passed away peacefully on September 14, 2024, in Amarillo, Texas. 

John was born and raised in Canton, Ohio on October 5, 1946. He was the oldest child of John A. Kager and Madeline M. Kager. After graduating from Timken Vocational High School in 1964, John got married and had two sons, Eric and Aaron Kager. As the boys grew, John became their coach of many sports teams. He also loved scratching lottery tickets and trips to the casino to try his luck at the slot machines. 

While in his twenties, John began his career with the United States Postal Service, where he held many positions, from clerk to carrier. He transferred with the Postal Service to Amarillo, Texas in 1977. While in Amarillo, John was a night clerk before transitioning to letter carrier in 1988. One of the most treasured parts of his tenure was serving as the Union Steward. He made many lifelong friendships that have endured past his December 2011 retirement.

John is preceded in death by his parents, John A. Kager and Madeline M. Kager. 

John is survived by his sons, Eric Kager and wife Dara of Amarillo, Aaron Kager and wife Monique of Sulphur Springs, sisters Joanne Williams (Denny) and Carol Jean Kager, both of Canton, Ohio, six grandchildren, Shelby Armstrong-Kager (Larissa), Kalee Kager (Bryce), Austin Kager, Megan Thompson (Coltin), Makenna White (Noah) and Kason Kager, and two great-grandchildren, Madeline Kager and Henry Thompson.

John’s final resting place will be Calvary Cemetery in Massillon, OH. Family and friends will gather at a memorial in Amarillo to honor his life on Saturday, October 26, 2024, at 2:00 pm at Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.
