John Charles “Buck” Barney, 73, of Amarillo, TX passed away November 18, 2024.
The family will receive friends from 5-6 PM, Friday, November 22, 2024 at Boxwell Brothers, 2800 Paramount. Funeral service will be at 11:00 AM, Saturday, November 23, 2024 at Hillside Christian Church Northwest Campus, 600 Tascosa Rd. Interment will follow in Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.
Buck was born April 11, 1951 in Uniontown, PA to Charles “Charlie” and Jeanne (McAndrews) Barney. He married Carol Smithson on June 28, 2002 in Las Vegas, NV at the NASCAR Café. He worked at Pantex for 31 years as a diesel mechanic and section manager.
Buck had a lifelong passion for cars, both racing and restoration. He was in the “Classic Rollers TOTTA (Top of Texas Trans Am) Clubs. He and Carol travelled across the states from Texas to Arizona. Oklahoma, Kansas, and even up to Michigan in his El Camino. Buck loved watching his granddaughter Makenna play softball and grandson Chase play high school baseball. He was always willing to help anyone with their cars or any projects. Buck enjoyed watching NASCAR, West Virginia Football, and the Pittsburgh Steelers.
He is preceded in death by his stepson, Jason Rippy; and parents, Charles and Jeanne Barney.
Buck is survived by his wife, Carol; Buck's children, Beth Langwell and husband Steve of Amarillo, TX and Charlie Barney and wife Kimberly of Amarillo, TX; stepchildren, Melanie Rippy of Amarillo, TX, Justin Rippy of Amarillo, TX; grandchildren, Makenna and Chase Hall and 5 additional grandchildren all of Amarillo, TX; and brother, Jim Barney and wife Janet of Roanoke, VA.
