Joel Dale Low

Joel Dale Low, 83, passed into the arms of his heavenly Father on Saturday, March 15, 2025. He was born on December 17, 1941, to Dale and Eva Lee (Morrison) Low in Pampa, Texas. The home of his childhood was 22 miles down the road in Miami, Texas—the Sweetheart of the Plains and the home of the National Cow Calling contest. He raised animals for 4H and FFA, won numerous awards as a boy scout, spent countless hours fishing in a small tank behind the barn where they kept their horses, and hunted for quail, turkeys, and coyotes.

Joel graduated from Miami Elementary School as valedictorian, which he always chuckled about, as there were only 9 in his class! He graduated from Tascosa High School in Amarillo, Texas, and received his BBA in Marketing from West Texas State University in Canyon, Texas, where he played basketball and was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity. He met the love of his life, Barbara Jean Stephens, at WTSU. They eloped and were married on December 15, 1962, in Clovis, New Mexico. They spent 62 wonderful years together making music, memories, and moments. Joel was a romantic and often hid love notes for his lovely wife in her make-up drawers and wrote poetry for their only child, Angie.

Joel was a salesman! He worked for Woodman of the World Life Insurance Society as a national sales instructor; International Playtex, Bra and Girdle Division as a territory rep; Mark Davis Carpet, Ingram’s Carpet, and K-Mac Carpets as store manager, general manager, and Vice President, respectively; and for Morgan Stanley as a financial advisor.

Joel was a Canyon Jaycee and Woodmen Lodge member of Amarillo, Abilene, and Omaha, Nebraska. He volunteered with the H.O.S.T.S. Program in AISD and served on the Board of Directors for Amarillo Ambucs and Lake Tanglewood, Inc. He attended First United Methodist Church in Miami, Texas, Paramount Baptist Church in Amarillo, and Southcrest Baptist Church in Lubbock.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Dale Low and Eva Lee (Morrison) Low of Miami, Texas, and sisters, Jean Carole Low and Annette (Low) Leake, both of Amarillo, Texas. Joel is survived by his wife, Jean (Stephens) Low, Dallas; daughter, Angie (Low) Molina; and husband, Michael, Dallas; grandson, Ralph Molina; and wife, Lindsey, Austin; and granddaughter, Rebecca Molina, Dallas.

A public memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at 10:30 am at Broadway Funeral Chapel, 1901 Broadway in Lubbock, Texas. Burial will follow immediately afterwards in Crosbyton, Texas. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, Amarillo, Texas.
