Jo Ella Deloris Long, 88, of Amarillo, died Monday, Dec. 3, 2012.
Services will be at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 6, 2012, in Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel. Burial will be private in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
Mrs. Long was born Oct. 9, 1924, in Barberton, Ohio to Joe and Maude Pierce. She grew up in Mountain City, Tennessee where she later married Ralph Long. He was in the Navy and they lived in Long Beach, CA, then Corpus Christi and settled in Amarillo where they lived for more than 40 years.
She was past queen of Avihk Temple, Daughters of the Nile, past matron of the Bonita Chapter, member of the Order of the Eastern Star, and three time past president of the Auxiliary of Northwest Texas Hospital where she had volunteered more than 14,000 hours at the hospital.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1993; a brother, Edwin Pierce in 1993; and two sisters, Kay and June.
Survivors include two sisters, Hilda Absher and husband Bill of Kingsport, Tennessee and Juanita Tolliver and husband Bill of Elizabeton, Tennessee; a sister-in-law, Hazel Pierce of Piney Flats, Tennessee; and numerous nieces and nephews.
