Jimmie Wineford Owens

Jimmie Wineford Owens, 92, of Amarillo, Texas, passed away peacefully on October 6, 2024. Born in Hedley, Texas, to Sam and Cassie Owens. Jimmie graduated from Hedley High School in 1949 and went on to attend West Texas State College, where he furthered his education.

Jimmie married Peggy Ruth Herrington on September 4, 1954 in Tucumcari, NM. They shared 65 years of marriage together before her passing!

Jimmie served his country honorably in the U.S. Army, where he developed a deep sense of patriotism and camaraderie that would last a lifetime. After his military service, he dedicated his career to the Department of Energy at Pantex, where he contributed to the nation's safety and security.

A proud member of the Coors Cowboy Club and the Mule Skinners, Jimmie's love for the cowboy lifestyle was evident in everything he did. His stories inspired many, and his infectious laughter brought joy to all who knew him.

Known not just for his achievements, but also for his kindness and generosity, Jimmie was a loving father, grandfather, and friend. He was always ready with a helping hand or a listening ear, and his legacy of hard work and integrity will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Jimmie was preceded in death by his son James and his wife Peggy, and his brother Sam, sister Faye, sister Willie, and brother Merle.

He is survived by his son Gary and wife Sabrina, daughter Cindy and husband Darrell, grandchildren Brady and wife Mandy, Brett and wife Leslie, Breanne and husband Drew, Hunter and wife Logan, Hollie and husband Riley, 9 great-grandchildren; brothers, Butch and wife Linda, Doug and wife Kay; sister, Ginger, many nieces, nephews and cousins. 

Funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 10, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors. 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Khiva Shrine, continuing Jimmie's commitment to helping others.
