Jerry Wayne Conner

Jerry Wayne Conner, 80, of Amarillo, TX died Wednesday, July 31, 2024.

Visitation will be from 5:30-7:00 p.m., Monday, August 5, 2024, at Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home. The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 6, 2024, at Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.

Jerry was born August 31, 1943, in Medford, Oregon, to Grady and Virginia Conner. He owned and operated Jerry’s Famous Pit Barbeque for 40 years and Jerry’s Bird Farm.

He enjoyed colorful birds, Chinese Pheasant, peacocks, all animals but especially his miniature horses. He enjoyed anything outdoors. He loved planting a variety of trees, all sweets, his family, and of course, Jerry’s BBQ! He was known as “The King of Barbeque” and “The Bird Man”. He went to work for Dub’s BBQ when he was 16 years old as a dishwasher and ended up buying the restaurant; making it his own. Jerry never met a stranger and was loved by all. He believed in hard-work and loved the Lord.

Jerry was preceded in death by his father, Grady Allen Conner, mother, Virginia Stork Pruitt, stepfather, Sam Lee Pruitt, and Sam’s wife, Loree Pruitt, sister, Carol Lynn Conner, brother, Larry Allen Conner, step-brother, Gary Reed, step-sister, Randy Walterscheid, brother-in-law, Geri Kincanon, sister in-law, Faylene Conner, nephews, Brandon Caster and Todd Conner, and niece Kimberly Bryant.

He is survived by daughters, Janet “Colleen” and husband Steve Cubitt, and Joy Ruby Conner and partner Armond Brown; siblings, Jimmy Conner, Cheryl Baker, Teresa Kincanon, Dennis Pruitt and wife Lafanda, Cindy Pruitt and partner Michelle, and Keith Pruitt and wife Angie; grandchildren, Konscience “Nicole” Cubitt, Reginald Crowder, and Legend Brown, and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
