Jennie Michelle Cook – October 13, 2017

Jennie Michelle Cook was born on September 2nd, 1958 in Landstuhl, Germany to George and Millie Burgett.  She passed away on October 13th, 2017.
As the daughter of an Air Force Sergeant, she and her family lived in several states through her early life and settled in Amarillo in 1972 after her father retired.  She graduated from Palo Duro High School in 1976.
Michelle enlisted in United States Air Force in 1979 and served her country as a Communications Security Specialist until 1986.  She went back to school and graduated from West Texas State University with a Bachelors of Business Administration Degree in 1989 and became a Certified Public Accountant.  Following graduation, Michelle worked as a CPA in San Antonio and Austin.
She married her husband, KC Cook, on November 7, 1996.  They had a son, Stephen, in 1999 in San Antonio.  The family moved to Amarillo shortly after that to be closer to family.  Michelle continued her career as a CPA with businesses and non-profit organizations in Amarillo.
Michelle loved all animals but had a special place in her heart for horses, and had a lifelong dream of someday owning her own.  She made that dream a reality and the final member of the family, a Line Back Dun named Duke, joined us in 2014.
Michelle was devoted to her family and loved spending time with them at family gatherings.  She always tried to make sure her family had a smile on their faces with small gifts that showed she was thinking of them.  She was a loving and very generous woman and found great pleasure in supporting many different charities.
Michelle was not the type to just make acquaintances.  Rather, she made lifelong friends.  She maintained very close relationships with school friends, friends from each military unit she was part of, friends from each and every job she ever had, and new friends she met when she bought her horse.
She was preceded in death by her father George Burgett, her sister Jana Slaughter, her brother-in-law Jim Nesbitt, and her sister-in-law Lisa Burgett.
She is survived by husband KC and son Stephen Cook of Amarillo, step-son Greg Cook and wife Stephanie of Aberdeen, NC, step-daughter Desiree Cook of Portland, OR, step-daughter Meredith Cook of Amarillo, mother Millie Burgett of Amarillo, grandmother Ruby Gooch Floydada, sister Elaine Nesbitt of Amarillo, brother Lee Jefferson “Jeff” Burgett and wife Brenda of Dallas, brother-in-law Bobby Slaughter of Amarillo, and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Khiva Shrine Transportation Fund, 305 SE 5th Ave, Amarillo, TX 79101.
Memorial services will be at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 21, 2017, at Central Church of Christ chapel with Tim McMenamy officiating.  Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

I so miss this beautiful friend! Our horse group would meet at my house and watch horse training videos and practice. She would bring a small gift for the group. Toilet paper. We had the best laughs over that one! Michelle was so amazing. A kind beautiful soul who is now riding across the heavens free from pain. Until we meet again my dear friend!

Our prayers are for you and your family. May you find Peace and Grace in God’s love. In John 3:16 – “For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him might not perish but might have eternal life.” God Bless you in this time of sorrow.
    Always your friends…Zig and Tonya

So sad to hear this news.. Michelle was a complete Blessing in our life. She made us Michiganders feel welcome in Amarillo. Loved working with her as well as being neighbors of the Cooks and of course friends. I will miss her random and funny text’s about something she remembered or updates on friends.
May God welcome her home and Bless and comfort Stephen, KC and her family.

I am very sorry for your loss. It is not an easy time to go through. Talking about it with someone always helps, and their is no one better than God, he even gives us in the Bible Hope, in John 5:28, 29 where he promises to bring back to life our loved ones. And in Revelation 21:4 he promises us a better future where we won’t suffer no more. To know more visit jw.org
