Jeffrey Wayne Kautz

Jeffrey Wayne Kautz, 63 known to many as “Bigdaddy,” passed away on January 15, 2025, at the age of 63.

Jeff was born on July 13, 1961, in Liberal, Kansas, to Leroy and Viola Kautz. He graduated from Stratford High School in 1980, where he was known for his athleticism and pride in playing football, including having the honor of playing in the All-State game. His commitment to sports and community continued throughout his life.

A man who was always ready to lend a hand, Jeff was known for helping others in countless ways. He supported many children over the years, offering guidance and assistance with livestock shows across the state. Jeff also spent many years driving a school bus, where he became a beloved figure to the children on his route. He delighted in interacting with the kids and was always the first to buy them treats, leaving a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.

Jeff’s generosity extended beyond the school bus. He was quick to offer assistance, whether it was mowing the lawn for someone struggling with health issues or helping anyone in need. His kindness and big heart made him a pillar of his community, and he will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Jeff is survived by his wife, Lynette; his children, Josh (Meredith), Craig (Krista), and April; and his grandchildren, Holdyn, Avery, and Asher. He is also survived by his sister, Millie (Robert) Duffy; his brother, Toby Kautz; his mother-in-law, Jeanette Artho; and his in-laws, Debbie (Howard) Frerich, Shauna Artho, Paul (Sammie) Artho, Eric (Denise) Artho, Rex (Paige) Artho, and Jennifer Artho, along with many beloved nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leroy and Viola Kautz; his brother, Leroy Kautz Jr.; and his brother-in-law, Doug Artho.

Rosary will be said at 5:00 PM, Sunday, January 19, 2025 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Stratford. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:00 AM, Monday, January 20, 2025 at the church. Interment will follow in Stratford Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers at Stratford. 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Stratford Livestock Show Scholarship in Jeff’s honor.
