Jane Redmond Bridges Bass went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 21, 2024 while surrounded by her three beloved daughters in the beautiful home that she created in Amarillo, Texas with her husband of almost fifty-five years, "Sam." Jane was known for her desire to keep things “lighthearted” and insisted that upon her death, we share that she “bit the dust.”
Jane was born to John Beddingfield Bridges and Virginia Elizabeth Redmond Bridges in Atlanta, Georgia on December 6, 1946. She grew up with her brother, Jack Bridges, and sister, Rose Elizabeth Bridges Francis who both preceded her in death.
She married her soulmate, Anthony Vincent “Sam” Bass in August of 1969 and after a few years and adventures in Houston, they built a wonderful life, family, business and legacy in Amarillo, Texas.
Jane loved Jesus deeply and spent her mornings drinking coffee and reading her Bible with one of her adored Boston Terriers near by. Her faith was the cornerstone of her life. She was an extraordinary mother to her girls and the most adoringly enthusiastic and supportive grandmother to her numerous grandchildren in all of their endeavors.
Jane was filled with joie de vivre! She had a show-stopping smile, a distinct, generous laugh, and a quick wit. Jane also had opinions, which she shared as freely as her legendary laughter. Jane was typically LATE to the party but she always brought the LIFE to the party.
Jane was a natural: creating, planning, and organizing “over-the-top” events and always made the most ordinary things extraordinary.
Jane is survived by her soulmate and partner, Sam; her daughters, Jonna Bass Murphy of Amarillo, TX, Meme Bass of Frisco, TX, and Alison Bass Gaynor of Midland, TX; her grandchildren Grace Parr, Patching Bass Parr, Bella Parr, Ruth Parr, Sophia Anne Bruno, Vivianne Bridges Gaynor, Neils David Gaynor, Madison & Jack Stanley Murphy, Peter Darrin Murphy, Leah Jing Murphy, and Laine Lin Murphy; and her sons-by-marriage Brandon Gaynor and Darrin Murphy. Jane is also preceded in death by her fourth daughter, Rachel, with whom she is finally reunited in Heaven.
We would like to express our heartfelt thanks to Dr. Stephen Little and Lisa Broom of Houston Methodist DeBakey Heart and Vascular Center; Dr. Alan Keister; Jan, DeeAnne, Delores, and Lexi of Superior Home and Respite Care; Kassi of BSA Hospice; and treasured friends who have cared for Jane and her family during this sacred time.
The family will receive friends at Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home at 6 - 7pm on Thursday, April 25, 2024
We will celebrate Jane’s strength, love, and laughter at 11am on Friday, April 26, 2024 at Boxwell Brothers Chapel with a celebration of life to follow. Jane loved a party, so please help us celebrate her beautiful life. For this party, she will NOT be late!
