Jana Leigh May, age 68, passed away on January 10, 2025, in Amarillo, Texas surrounded by her family. Born on May 8, 1956 in Enid Oklahoma, and a graduate of Alva High School, home of the Gold Bugs.
Jana was a devoted Christian whose unwavering faith was the cornerstone of her life. She dedicated many years to serving her church community, offering her time, energy, and love to those in need. Jana’s spunky and bold personality lit up every room she entered, and her passion for life was truly infectious. One of a kind, she embraced her uniqueness and inspired others to do the same. Above all, Jana was a deeply loving individual whose warmth and care touched the lives of everyone fortunate enough to know her. She loved her family deeply and consistently dominated the family in a their traditional card game.
Jana dedicated over two decades of her life to KAMR News Channel 4, where she cherished her colleagues and her role within the community.
Jana was deeply involved in local politics and community initiatives. She served as the president of the High Plains Republican Women and was the driving force behind the Amarillo City for the Unborn Initiative, passionately supporting many local political figures on their paths to success. She was also a dedicated volunteer for Meals on Wheels. Jana was a great tennis player.
Jana is survived by her husband, Mike May; her son, Brett Stout and his wife, Hannah; three grandchildren, Sagen, Silas, and Sutton; her sister, Robbie Davis; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Omer Skaggs and Peggy Wells, her stepfather, Jerry, and her brother, Dirk Skaggs.
A memorial service will be held in her honor on Wednesday, January 15th, 2025 at 3:00 pm at First Baptist Church in Amarillo, Texas. Her commitment to her community and her loving presence will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
