Jan Davis, 76, of Amarillo, died Wednesday, October 30, 2013.
Memorial service will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday in Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel with Dr. Murray Gossett officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
Jan was born on September 3, 1937 in Eau Claire, Wisconsin to Elsie and Bob Fredin. Her family moved to Greenbelt, MD when she was four and she graduated from high school there. She married Robert “Blackie” Davis in 1957. Jan and Blackie lived on the East coast for several years before relocating to Amarillo in 1970. Of all the places they lived, Amarillo was by far their favorite.
Jan had the opportunity to work in many fields from the days of her youth as a secretary for Pepsi-cola to her later years as an office manager, but she always believed that her favorite job was that of being a mother to her three children.
Jan was active in the Xi Eta Chi Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi, where she held the positions of President, Vice-President, Recording Secretary, Social Secretary, and was honored as Chapter Sweetheart in 1992. From 1984-86, she served on the board at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church as the representative for the youth group. She was also an enthusiastic bridge player, and a voracious reader.
Jan was preceded in death by her parents, as well as her husband Robert Davis and her sister Carol Cragin.
Survivors include three children: Jon Davis of Denver Colorado, Kristin Mullen of Dallas and Karin Brown of Frisco; eight grandchildren, Christopher Davis, Sara Davis, Cameron Mullen, Darcy Mullen, Connor Mullen, Walker Mullen, Mandy Brown and Davis Brown. Her sister, Dorothy Jelinek, of Bluemont, VA also survives her.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
