James Edward Ackley, 85, of Amarillo, died on Friday, April 15, 2022. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday, April 20, 2022, at Trinity Lutheran Church with Rev. Dr. Brian Hesse, pastor, officiating. Burial will be at Valley View Cemetery in Garden City, Kansas. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
James was born on August 13, 1936, in Garden City, Kansas to Joseph and Inez Ackley. He graduated from Garden City Kansas High School in 1954. He served in the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1957 during the Korean Conflict. He served as agency manger in both Scott County and Lane County in Kansas with Farm Bureau Insurance for 26 years until retirement. He enjoyed fishing, wood working, and going on trips with his grandchildren. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
He married Sharon Drees on November 12, 1957. They enjoyed 64 years of a loving marriage.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, William R. Ackley and Leroy Ackley; and a sister, Joetta Ramsey.
He is survived by his wife Sharon Ackley of Amarillo; a son, Alan W. Ackley of Colorado Springs; a daughter, Sheryl L. Mackey and husband Brett of Amarillo; a sister, Naomi Denton of San Antonio; four grandchildren, Cameron Ackley and wife Courtney and baby boy, Aaron Ackley, Nathan Ackley, and Katie Mackey Barber and husband Steven; and many nephews, nieces, and friends.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, April 19, 2022 from 6:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. and suggests memorials to the Trinity Lutheran Childcare, 5005 W Interstate 40, Amarillo, TX 79106, in honor of the James Edward Ackley family.
