Jaime Cruz, Jr., 23, of Canyon, Texas passed away on December 15, 2023.
Rosary will be said at 10:00 A.M., Thursday, December 21, 2023, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church,
605 38th St, Canyon, TX. Mass will follow at 11:00 A.M., Thursday, December 21, 2023, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, with Father Scott Raef as celebrant. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.
Jaime was born in Amarillo, Texas on February 15, 2000, to Iris and Jaime Cruz. Jaime was a vibrant, multi-talented author, composer, musician, carpenter, athlete, tattoo artist, and engineer in-the-making. He survived a near-death experience in March of 2023 and wrote about it in his published book,
The Beach
, (available at Barnes & Noble). His experience brought him closer to God and his faith. He was blessed with a multitude of artistic talents, and he dedicated endless hours towards his music composition under the pseudonym Slyy Cruz. Slyy Cruz was a verified artist on Spotify with his ode to Moe, his most beloved fur-baby. His favorite compositions on Spotify were

. His last work on SoundCloud was an autobiographical composition of his desire to overcome and rise above all obstacles,
Borrowed Time
. His hobbies were painting, skateboarding, hiking, playing football, performing, and playing his guitar. On top of all this, he was working towards an associate’s degree in Advanced Manufacturing at Amarillo College, and he had taken up bowling to play with his brothers. He loved his family. He adored his brothers and would do anything for them. He was dearly loved, and he will be deeply missed.
He was preceded in death by his great-grandparents Consuelo and Conrado Cruz, Guadalupe and Maximiana Aragonez, Jose Nieves Vega, and Jose Gomez, and his first dog Buzz Lightyear of Star Command Cosmo Cruz.
He is survived by his parents Jaime and Iris, his brothers Aric and Max, his grandparents Carlos and Maria Vega and Beatriz Cruz and Jaime Cruz, his godparents and aunt and uncle, Crystal Morton and Alex Vega, his uncles and their wives, Jose and Tara Vega, and Adrian and Crystal Cruz, his aunt and sponsor Sandra Cruz, his aunt Claudia Perez, his uncle Christian Vega, and his cousins, Jay, Trinity, Addy, Salma, Omar, Natalie, Mia, Freya, and Elise.
